Anim8or Help

I am able to open up a 3ds in Anim8or to hack vertices, but I have no idea what to do from there. I am trying to turn Ike's swordblade into Sly Cooper's cane, and decided to try to at least try to do something with it for now. However, all I succeeded in doing is making the cape a little crumpled and make the texture not work, even though I wasn't even editing the cape. If anyone could point me in the right direction to do this or even if this is possible, that would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure if this will help too much but it's a start unless you already know how to use it
A little suggestion when editing vertices try not to go past where the original vertices are or else it'll mess up
