Now, I feel it may be possible that these three are still playable.
1.) Ridley and Metal Face
I had at one time believed Ridley had a chance to be playable, partly do to the ambiguity of the situation. However, as we're all aware, he's nowhere to be seen(I don't believe he has a trophy either). Where Metal Face comes in though, he too was teased(Not in-game, but you get the idea), and considering his importance I doubt he's an Assist Trophy.
What does this mean? They're bosses, which is pretty obvious I think. Bosses which I don't feel would run well on a 3DS, unlike the Find Mii boss Dark Emperor, who has a trophy.
There's no reason to leave out important characters like Metal Face and Ridley unless they hold a significant role in he Wii U version, but they were both teased.
So to sum this up, these two were teased as bosses, and for the rest of this post they will be considered as such.
2.)Gematsu
Now, we're going to assume Gematsu is not a series of lucky guesses, and if anyone disagrees with that then you should probably exit the topic. It had mentioned Chorus Men, right? Who're nowhere to be seen but as a trophy? Well, Gematsu also claimed there were plans for DLC, which when considered with Chorus Men leads me to believe Chorus Men are DLC. I am aware of Chrom's in-game status, as well as his info regarding him and Sakurai's response. Sakurai supposedly said Chrom was quickly dismissed, which I do believe, but after Villager's reveal Sakurai's word isn't as absolute/truthful as we once thought. Don't you think he'd want us not to know about the roster, that he maybe could've lied here to hide the fact that Shulk was in? For the rest of this post, we'll assume Gematsu had dated information, and that Sakurai hadn't been entirely truthful.
To sum it all up, this confirms the presence of DLC, as well as Chorus Men being playable.
3.)Chorus Men, Rayman, and Ice Climber's trophies
Now, assuming Chorus Men are in, that means their trophy is present before their reveal. I feel this is applicable to the Ice Climbers and Rayman as well, but as version exclusives. They both make sense being on the Wii U, considering the fact that they're primarily console based, and I doubt Sakurai, who admits to them functioning on the Wii U, would let that go to waste. Rayman likely wouldn't get a new model just for trophy status, it's more likely he holds a more significant role. Is an Assist Trophy possible? Yes. Do I feel that he's an Assist Trophy? No. That'd be like having Pac Man or Mega Man be an assist, he's too big a character, much like they were, to receive the trophy treatment. The difference is though, he's creating a new name for himself with his 2D platformer series of games. Ice Climbers do have a trophy on the 3DS, but Rayman does not, and I feel this is because ICs are already established characters and are therefore still apart of Smash's history.
To sum it up, we'll assume Rayman and ICs are DLC.
4.)Mewtwo
We're all aware of Mewtwo's popularity, as well as recent showings in movies in games. Why wasn't he in, why was Greninja in you ask? Mewtwo doesn't rep the 6th gen, only his Final Smash would(We're assuming it's one or both megas). Greninja is better advertisement for the 6th gen, but despite that there's no arguing Mewtwo's popularity. Here's the thing: Why include Mewtwo, the more popular Pokemon, when we can get fans to pay extra for him? Because of his popularity, I feel he's DLC, and he's not entirely irrelevant either, as discussed already. Also, his trophy is also included, and he's apart of Smash history too, but I feel he's DLC for the 3DS for the reasons above, as well as the idea that DLC characters can/do have trophies in before their inclusion.
Not entirely right with Mewtwo, but I still feel there will be exclusives.
