An idea for Super Smash Bros. 4?

Hey I was thinking, you know how come people prefer Melee's Air dodging sytem and people prefer Brawl's and the fact that people prefering having L-canceling whilst others don't? Wouldn't it be a good idea if in SSB4, it'd let you to decide whether you'd like Melee's air dodging sytem or Brawl's and whether if you'd allow L-canceling or not during a match? I think it'd be a good idea because why not? You're pleasing both audiences. I dunno that's just what I think.
Opinions?

I myself thought of such a thing.

This can be applied to a number of dodge/shielding mechanics, I think it would appeal greatly to both casual and competitive players.

As I'm not familiar with programming, I don't know how difficult it would be to include both Melee and Brawl physics, and switch between the 2 of them via options.

No, Smash 4 should have its own, unique physics
We'd probably just get more complaints from Melee fanboys.

(cough cough, Mr.C cough)

Melee was a good game, but I hate when anyone feels the need to rant about which Smash they think is better, and insults the one they think isn't.

That's not what I mean ,however. What I meant is you should be able to toggle between Brawl's air dodge system and Melee's and able to choose whether you want L-canceling or not. If I recall correctly, Smash 4 has Brawl's airdodge system but I'm not sure about that.

This is a bad idea and you should feel bad.
Nah but seriously it wouldn't be too difficult to program in.
All character's air dodges are identical, so you wouldn't have to adjust momentum or distance or anything for each character, plus they wouldn't need any new assests because they can use the same air dodge animation for both types of air dodging. Wouldn't be too much work at all.

No way in heck they would implement it. It's weird that I can't really give a good reason for why it shouldn't be a feature, other than it'd feel wrong to have two types of dodging in the same game.

It's a bad idea because you can't design the game around particular systems like that. Rather, you either balance everything around one set of physics and leave the others as totall out of place or you have a monster of a game that doesn't work with any settings. Like any particular games or not, Melee and Brawl were both finely tuned to their respective design decisions; I want smash 4 to be similarly carefully made to whatever direction it will go. Including a ton of options to change the basics of how the game plays is not productive to that.

Also, from a competitive standpoint, more options is just more stuff to fight over for rulesets. For casual play options are fun, but from a competitive standpoint, you want as few options as possible with the right choices on those options being as obvious as possible and the game being built as well as possible around those narrow options.

when the tourney scene makes an appearance, they're probably going to want to decide which one should be used. though they could just go with the default one.

(which would be Brawls air dodge of course :troll:)

It would only work if everyone has the same air dodge in the match being played, so like casual's turn it on for everyone and competitive's turn it off for everyone ect. Having two different air dodges in one match would be kinda weird lol.

I think it would be interesting if under special brawl(or whatever it's called in the next game) one of the options is "melee" "brawl" or "normal"(with none being Smash 4 of course) for physics/mechanics just like how in Brawl you could select lightning, slow, or normal, or bunny hood, flower or normal, ect.. Smash4 would obviously be the default and the game would be balanced with the Smash4 settings in mind but you could screw around with the other two for fun. 'Course I have no idea how difficult that would be to program.

Alot lol. But I want smash 4 to at least feel like's own game and provide me with fun and fast pace action like melee did But that is too much to ask for from sakurai i'm sorry i'm not the beginner or the casual that he keeps focusing on.

I honestly think it's a solid addition to the series.

i am trying to defend brawl for you...but..

The bosd battles were the best addition imo.

Well Brawl added Diddy/Wario/Sonic/DDD

Brawl is a good game apart from the gameplay..the features were good it expanded enough to be acceptable for sure expecially considering what we had to deal with..(the Wii...)

But ''Game''Play imo is the most important aspect of a ''Game''

Both Melee & 64 Had much better gameplay than Brawl imo.

Brawl would have been tones more memorable and better if they simply made the enemies in SSE from the Ninty franchises atleast...instead of....

Like they did with the Bosses

Petey
RayQ
Ridley

Were sick bosses.

oy, stay on topic guys.

I would like brawl's airdodge, without the ability to cancel hitstun.

To be honest, this is a very bad idea. I mean the actual idea is good, but it would mean balancing with two different style of physics, which would be A LOT harder, and it just wouldn't make Smash 4 unique. Plus, I think that could complicate tournaments. It needs to choose one style to stick with. If anything, we can rely on the modding community.

I always thought it would be interesting to have both types of dodges in-play at the same time. So if you hit just the shield button in the air, you'd do a Brawl airdodge and keep your momentum. But if you hit a direction + shield, you'd do a directional melee dodge and go into special fall. I doubt melee dodges are coming back, though.

Toggling between two separate dodging systems in a menu would cause some problems. You'd have to balance the game to both systems (costs time and money), and there would be no way to standardize the ruleset. You'd have some tournaments with one system, some tournaments with the other, and I'm sure there are people grumpy enough to avoid tournaments just because of the air-dodge system. Less division is better.

Cool! I have almost every game there, recently bought an original Ocarina but it doesn't save, WHY?
By the way, my Tooie cartridge's sticker is different, maybe regional differences.

I'm just saying, I don't want it to be Brawl 2.0 or Melee 2.0

Brawl's air dodge =/= brawl 2.0
melee's air dodge =/= melee 2.0
