Smash Journeyman
TL/DR: Mario Tennis Aces has a simple adventure mode that could potentially work for Smash Ultimate. Opinions?
For those who haven't played Mario Tennis Aces, it adds a semi-fleshed out adventure mode. It's pretty straightforward with a basic story and not many animated scenes. Rather it has a quick character discussion screen before heading into a level. The overworld map is also very simple with little pathways connecting each challenge.
How does this relate to Smash Bros? Because I think this style of Adventure mode could actually work in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Granted, it isn't as exciting as the grandiose Subspace Emissary that we would all much rather have, it would be a lot easier to make and would still include a story-mode we could all play through. An adventure mode like this would likely include a new (probably simplified) story that would include every character in some way. Rather playable or as a boss enemy I'm not sure, but there are plenty of franchises to make this adventure mode pretty extensive.
Now enough just talking about it, here's a few images I made to convey what I'm talking about:
A basic pre-level discussion between the duo of Yoshi and Zelda
Now would the levels be sidescrollers like Subspace? Or stages already in the game with challenges?
Kirby and Mario probably just defeated Donkey Kong as a boss
For example, this level could be one of the DK stages while battling a Giant Donkey Kong.
Overworld Concept #1
Okay, so would you explore the map just like Mario in Aces with just whichever character you're using, or...
Overworld Concept #2
Would you have different characters on each level and going to each one would initiate playing as them or battling them?
Alright, so that's all I have for the thread. Would love to hear everyone's opinions on this! I personally wouldn't mind it if we weren't gonna get Subspace Emissary anyways, but would, of course, prefer SE.
