so I managed to gain a Shulk Amiibo as an early B-day present, and once I found time I got to work on training it..

following this guide I found, I started by pitting it against a level 9 AI, which was horrible at utilizing shulk properly but it showed the basics at least, come level 10, I mirror matched it, and I fought like I usually did, changing Monado Arts when the situation changed. as it levelled up, some commands did not compute, so I took the rewards it got and reset it.

I repeated the pattern except instead I did one art at a time, fought as Vanilla Shulk until the art I chose came back, and activated it again. did this with Speed, Jump, and Shield (under 125% handicap for me only).. once I reached Buster, I attacked until I it ran out, then activated Smash and attempted to land a kill move. the Amiibo got it down on picking the monado art it thought it needed, but over time it grew used to using Jump and Speed, while killing with Smash. I apparently gave it too much trouble in using Shield as it rarely uses. and I had to whale on it in Buster to prompt it to utilize it more.

so as far as I know, the Amiibo does not seem capable of registering the idea of cancelling the Monado Arts to switch to another one, and if you interrupt it while it's picking an art it mashes through them as if having trouble deciding what works at the moment. if it's offstage, it'll stop at Jump, though.

I currently have trouble teaching it how to utilize Back Slash, and it does not always use Air Slash's second swipe. counters like a boss, though, and I might need to find a way for it to unlearn spamming the jab combo...

that's all I got on amiibo training for the Shulk I named Mr. Monado.

anyone else got some notes to share?

My Shulk amiibo tends to copy whether I use just the first part of air slash or both parts. I find when training it, it's best to do the two strikes all the time (even if you yourself would have only used one) as the amiibo is stupid and will use the one air slash even if it needs both.

Also, I can't get my amiibo to use air slash as an attacking move. It only does it for recovery. Therefore, I think mighty air slash is best up b custom for it.

AAS is the worst, as the amiibo does not understand how to use it (just like CPU AI)

As for arts usage, it's interesting that your amiibo using speed and jump. Mine prefers buster. It used Jump and Speed occasionally. It uses Jump and Speed to help recover. Speed is used neutrally. Shield is used at high percents. The amiibo does not seem capable of deactivating Shield when knocked off the stage. It goes to smash when the opponent is at high percents.

My amiibo loves to jump around while spamming neutral B, switching through the different monado arts repeatedly. Somebody else who I have talked to has an amiibo that does that too.

The amiibo does seem to understand match-ups somewhat. If I'm Shulk it starts out in Buster but if I'm Link it tries out Monado Jump. Same for Villager. Maybe it just knows to go to Jump against projectile users.
