For those of us training up the new Amiibo, I thought a thread should be created for documenting our findings and training strategies.

What works, what doesn't, the Amiibos capabilities and their limitations.

I'll start. I purchased a Villager on release day with the intent of reaching him to use nothing but the tree. Aptly, he is ned Treellager. While I did put him in a few real fights and occasionally used other attacks against him, largely I took him all the way from level 1 to 50 by beating him with only the tree fall attck. The intent was to teach him to use the tree by showing it's value to him across many fights. I've noted that regular Villager CPUs already have a strong aversion to the tree attack.

However, I was not able to break this habit. At one point, I evem enlisted a friend for 20 levels to play another Villager, putting us each on a team against him and killing him over and over again with only the tree. Yet still I have never seen him use the tree. The only thing I seem to have instilled in him is how to beat the tree.

While most CPU of all levels quite blindly run into the tree (Well documented), Treellager has become very proficent at beating the tree. He initiates just as the tree is wilting, before it is even visual as if he is counting the seconds. He baits the tree out by dashing towards it and then rolling away. He knows his net reaches right through the tree for a grapple. I've even seen him throw a Gyroud at the tree, which I pocketed and then threw back at him. (As I often did in his training.) This time, he pocketed back that Gyroid and flung it back at the tree, then spawned another Gyroid right behind it. Both Gyroids killed the tree, and he was immediately behind them ready to attack me.

I posit that Amiibos do not entirely adopt your habits, but also how best to counter them to simulate the feeling of growth.

That's even better I think. They force you to adopt new habits in order to stay one step ahead. Pain in the butt, I know, but as close as you can get to human if you have no friends you consistently play with or siblings who also play with you consistently.

My Link Amiibo projectile spams and uses the gale boomerang for followups, so that's good.

Seems like a great purchase for those who don't have any friends that play smash.

That's the case with me, all my friends are the "you seriously still play Nintnedo?!" type of friends. Therefore when it comes to Smash I can never convince them to buy it. Looks like although I wouldn't want to drop 13 dollars on one, it fits my circumstances perfectly

My Donkey Kong amiibo or (Retro Kong) version is really interesting. I fought against him with all but two matches against pikachu to level up to 50. He Does a lot of jumping attacks and shields and dodges alot. He also ledge guards really well. It seems like they learn what you do and copy that and also to combat against what you do. The samus one i have isnt quite as interesting more of a basic samus. But i fought against her with more characters.

From what I've heard, apparently training Amiibos as Rosalina does not work properly. Because Rosalina can send Luma out to attack with it's own close range attacks, the Amiibos register this timing and try to apply it, meaning they are using close range attacks on opponents who have not yet reached close attack range. This results in Amiibos attacking thin air in a seemingly mindless fashion, but it's actually a case of them thinking they have a Luma on hand.

I'm sure the exact opposite will be true for the actual Rosalina Amiibo, though.

I use WiiFit Bæ, HylianHero, So Peachy, and Ashachu in battles. They dominate.

My Mario has learned to grab-back throw KO, up-tilt and Side-B to Side Smash KO.
