I guess they had to cut some costs somehow... Shame.

So far it seems Smash Bros Wii U is the only one with this kind of feature for Amiibos. I do wonder what other games will a similar functionality in the future.

For some reason I feel secure that I will not need to use the inevitable Mr. Game and Watch amiibo on a game other than Super Smash Bros.

They can only store one game's data at a time.

That doesn't mean you can't unlock Mario Kart costumes and **** like that if your amiibo has Smash Bros data. No data would need to be saved for just unlocking content.

This is correct. Furthermore, SSB is currently the only game that saves Amiibo data. Chances are that Nintendo will give us an Amiibo data management app by the time another game that uses them in such a way.

Well considering these Amiibo's are centred around Smash Bros, it makes sense. I'm actually surprised that they had other functions outside of Smash Bros. such as a new weapon for Link in Hyrule Warriors, or free Mii costumes in Mario Kart 8. I was already satisfied with they're purpose within Smash Bros, but to have few extras here and there to make my purchase matter, that makes me happy. Obviously for a $15 figure, there has to be limits and it comes to no surprise, for me at least, that the Amiibo figures act that way. That doesn't mean that if you receive the Mii outfits from MK8 that your Amiibo data for Smash Bros. will be deleted. The Hyrule Warriors and MK8 extras won't delete your Amiibo data as it only reads from the Amiibo, not writes anything on it.

Nintendo's next gen console will probably have more amiibo abilities

That actually sounds very likely. Free download or just a 1-2dollar app to store/remove data off the amiibo so you can load another game.

See, the thing is, what I kept hearing before is that only the Smash Bros. Amiibos would work for Smash Bros. This instead implies to me that the Amiibos will work regardless of the game, you just can only have data for one game on it at a time.

And honestly, I believe they'll probably release an update later that will allow you to save your Amiibo game data to your Wii U and transfer it back to your Amiibo later, anyway. Plus, Smash is the only game currently to support this feature.

This should be noted in the OP for those confused about this situation. SSB4 is currently the only game that supports saves for Amiibos while the rest's known functionality involves unlock and other stuff that doesn't need a save for the Amiibo.

Thank you for this. I updated the OP to have this information there also.

As long as games can save their Amiibo data like a bank, or as long as they make an app for this kind of thing, I won't mind at all. Chances are that if I ever am bringing an Amiibo to a friend's house, it will be for Smash anyway.

It's also likely they will release alternative models of the same character if you really want to save content for multiple games for the same character, but you don't want two figures that look identical. I'd love a Mario Kart line, if only to get a Biker Rosalina one.

I don't think this will be too much of a problem so long as Nintendo doesn't suddenly release a full game cenetered entirely around the Amiibos.

Someone will probably create a phone app for reading, storing and writing Amiibo data.

Sadly, probably the same with Ness...
