This is a just a tournament I decided to create on another site as well. It became pretty successful so I decided to post it here as well, as I have made countless tournaments revolving around this same topic
General Rules:

* 3 stock.
* 8 minutes.
* Items are turned to off and none.
* All sets with the exception of winner's finals, loser's finals, and the championship are best of 3 matches (best of 5 and above should be played out for any "finals" matches)
* If the Timer runs out, the winner of the Game will be determined by the following criteria in this order: Stock and Percentage. If Stock is used to determine a winner, the highest number will win. If Percentage is used to determine a winner, the lowest number will win.
* Resolving Ties: If percents are the same or both players die simultaneously, there will be a 1 stock, 3 minute, same characters, same stage rematch.
* You are responsible for your own controller and name tag. Any malfunctions or errors that occur are your responsibility, so bring an extra controller if possible and always check to make sure you're using the correct settings BEFORE a match is played. If a match is to be restarted due to controller functions, it must be agreed upon by both parties.
* Any action which prevents the game from continuing (i.e. by causing the game to crash or causing all characters to freeze indefinitely) is banned. If the Tournament Organizer or a judge can conclusively determine the player responsible for the failure, that player loses the interrupted game. Players are expected to know their characters and prevent this from happening.
* The Mages DQ rule: After a match has been called, if a player is 10 minutes late he will receive a warning. At 15 minutes late, he will be given a loss for the first game of the set. After 20 minutes, he will be given a loss of the entire set.
* Desync Problem: Due so many people use Textures Hacks for Stages and/or Characters, If the game desync in the middle of the match due a texture or model texture BOTH players should remove the SD cards from the Wii. If the problem continues the TO should make a decission to declarate a winner.

Gameplay Rules:

*No use of Marth’s Grab Release Infinites against Ness.
*No use of King Dedede’s Standing Grab Infinites against Bowser, Donkey Kong, Luigi, Samus, and Mario.
* Meta Knight's Infinite Dimensional Cape Glitch is banned.
* If a game ends with Ganondorf/Bowser/Kirby/King Dedede using a 'cide move and it ends in sudden death, the sudden death will be ignored and that game will count as a win for Ganondorf/Bowser/Kirby/King Dedede.
* Stalling is banned.
Stalling: The act of deliberately avoiding any and all conflict so that one may make the game unplayable. Running away from an opponent to reach a better position is not stalling, while using an infinite to run out the timer rather than to score a KO is. As such, any infinite chain-grabs, locks, etc. cannot exceed 300%. Or using Sonic's Neutral B repeatedly underneath the stage is.
*Any sign of cheating may result in a Forfeit of the Game, disqualification from the Event (Proof is needed)
*No player must grab the ledge more than 40 times in a game. If, and only if, the timer runs out and either player has exceeded the total ledge grabs, they lose the game, regardless of stocks and percents. If both players exceed the ledge-grab limit, then the usual time-out rules will apply.

Set format (In Order of Procedure):

1. Opponents make their character select screen choices for the first match. *

2. Opponents start the stage striking procedure.

* 7 Stages: 1-2-2-1

3. Each player may announce one or tow stage(s) to be banned for counterpicks of the set.

4. The first game is played, using the stage chosen during step 2.

5. The loser of the previous match announces the next match's stage from either the Starter Stage List or the Counter Stage List. **

6. The winner of the previous match announces their character.

7. The loser of the previous match announces their character.

8. Repeat steps 5-7 for all proceeding matches.

*Double blind character selection may be called for the first match. Also, the choices made here include the character's color and whether the player will start as Samus or Zero Suit Samus, as Zelda or Sheik, or as a particular Pokemon for Pokemon Trainer.

**No player may choose a stage they have already won on in that set unless agreed upon by both players. (Dave's Stupid Rule)

Stages:

Stages are divided up into neutral, counter-pick, and banned. Neutral stages are the only stages that are used in the first game of a match. After that, the loser may pick any stage, neutral or counter-pick, that is not banned. "Counter-Pick/Banned" category are left to the tournament organizers to determine their actual placement in any specific tournament.

Non-Live Tournaments Additional Rules

Here are some rules that I think that could work and please feel free to comment or suggest something as this is what I feel as a tournament organizer, important to address:

1. Players responsibility to check the tournament thread and set up a match time with their opponent in a round (thought it needed to be highlighted)

2. Players should contact each other through private messages or thread posts

3. If your opponent doesn't respond to you within 48 hours of the round starting or doesn't show up at the agreed time, pm the TO (tourney organizer) with a proof of scheduled match (print screen on chat or print screen on/refer to pms).

4. Players not responding after 36 hours of the agreed time or at the round deadline are subject to be replaced or DQ'd

5. If no scheduled time is present, players are expected to play at the deadline (deadlines should be between 8-10 pm EST)

6. If the deadline passed and both players haven't responded, they should be DQ and a back-up player(s) or lucky loser (someone who has played and lost) will move on in the bracket. (I don't really believe on awarding inactive players by advancing them through a coin flip or draw)

7. Pms will be sent to all back-up players when needed. The players that responded first should be the replacement[/spoiler]

TOURNEY STARTS AT 3PM EST!
