Am I the only one who doesn't use Training mode?

In fighting games like Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, and Injustice, I'll spend hours trying to land combos until they're perfect. But in Smash Bros, I only really used it to learn to gimp a few recoveries and hit-ranges using certain characters. Due to the flimsiness of the A.I. - its inability to recover low properly - as well as the lack of rage mechanic, record feature, and proper defensive options, I really don't train in there.

Is there something I'm missing? Should I be practicing anything in Training mode or does all the valuable experience come from just playing other people at tournaments and online?

Its pretty much online and people, the AI's good and all if you want to figure stuff out about your character like Link's Jab links, but this is a game about outsmarting your enemy primarily, which is something you really don't get out of the AI like another person.

Training serves purposes like collecting official frame data, practicing hitboxes and range, perfecting tricky offstage gimps without sacrificing your records, learning kill percentages on moves (without additional factors like DI and rage) for later reference, and doing post-patch tests to look for changes. As far as developing combos and tactics, its best to just fight in standard Smash.

Due to the lack of staling and whatnot, I don't use it unless I'm going specifically to demonstrate a very small number of moves to a friend (or to myself), or to test kill percentages on custom stages.

It's perfect for practicing pure tech skill and there are definitely ways to manipulate the computer into being where you want it to be on and off stage. The ability to slow down time is also particularly useful for learning/understanding certain techs. But yes, at the end of the day nothing will beat the real deal when it comes to experience and growth.

I'll use it for learning how different match-ups work with their dodge-rolls (distance, speed, etc.) so I can get my punish options down. Not much else, since Training Mode really works best for those who are learning the ropes (I used it for practicing Ike's are game to better get a feel for his range and sweet spots) or trying to tackle the Offline modes.

It's good for practicing ATs, character movement, getting a general feel for combos and gimping recoveries. It keeps you from getting rusty if you don't have access to play online or don't get to play with other people offline very often.

Personally I can see why people use training mode, but for me training is straight up for glory 1v1

I think I have only used it to do the combo in training mode challenge, where all you really do is put the % at 999 and then you grab and pummel the AI for a cheesy high combo count.

Ikr found that on gamexplain! Still haven't finished all the challenges, I have the last 10 that you can't use a hammer on so hopefully I can finish those
