Alternative ledge trump methods

By now, most of us know about the benefits of ledge trumping, and the straightforward, half-circle backward motion to grab that ledge immediately after running off. This technique requires a good deal of practice to perform consistently, and can be pretty tragic if failed in a real match. That's why I want a thread dedicated to quick, character specific options for ledge trumping. The methods I'm looking for are supposed to be easy to perform, and comparatively quick to the standard ledge trump method.

The first category will involve using a side special out of a dash/run in the opposite direction just before running off a ledge. The ledge cancels the move being performed while it is in windup, and forces you into an immediate fall, facing the ledge. Here are the characters that can do it:

:4bowser:,:4samus:,:4ness:,:4miigun:*

*stealth burst will not work, but the other two options will, since they are basically Samus' missile and Ness' PK Fire, respectively

The only customs I've tested for this method are the variants for moves that clearly work. It should be noted that the time frame for the technique will be larger or smaller depending on the move's own frame data and slide capabilities. For instance, Samus' missiles are comparatively more difficult than Ness' PK Fire.

I'd like to hear about other, viable types of ledge trumping. As well as further testing with the method I've described.

Most of the time its luck but if you space Falco/Foxs phantasm you can snap onto the ledge fairy quickly resulting in a ledge trump.

Samus' missile ledge cancel is easier to perform but is better suited for aerial use than ledge trumping. It's best to just practice the half circle technique to perfection since in every case with every character it is a significant amount of frames quicker since it's a significant amount of frames faster.

Ah, you've caught me there. My typical ledge trumps with Samus were not as quick as they could have been. I mistakenly though that when running off the ledge, the animation of a character tumbling off must play out before they can grab the ledge behind them. While both methods with Samus can be performed at varying degrees of perfection, the missile ledge cancel is held back by the few frames that Samus must fall before she grabs the ledge. That is the ultimate difference in time when both methods are performed frame perfectly.

Oh well, I still see massive potential in these ledge cancels, but maybe the ledge trump application is not the strongest one.

I've tried it, but everytime I did, they grabbed the ledge in the normal fashion of ledge trumping. Since you perform a side B back to the stage immediately after falling, it's reasonable to assume that those two still can grab ledges during their side B windup next to the ledge.

Absolutely. MLC has a ton of applications both on stage platforms and on the edge. If you have any interest in playing as Samus or even the Mii gunner competetively then MLCing is a must.

It's not a ledge cancel but certain characters have side specials that can be interrupted by grabbing the ledge (eg both Mario's capes), worth looking into to see if there are other characters that have similar properties.
