Smash Lord
While posting in the "How should Samus transform" sticky thread, I thought of something that I've yet to see anywhere else.
There seemed to be an unbalance between the Super Smashes in the trailer. It seemed Mario's Super Smash was very powerful and covered a lot of area, why Link's and Kirby's attacked only one other player. This doesn't seem right.
Also I suggested in the topic that Samus and Zamus be two seperate characters, except have the Super Smash be a means to switch between the two. It was then noted that if you didn't want to switch, you'd be forced to.
This made the think. I came to the conclusion, and I posted it in that topic, that there can be alternate Super Smashes. Super Smashes appear to be items, but there is quite possibly more than one way to use an item. Pressing A may be different from pressing front A. In this case, Super Smashes become much like special moves.
This fixes the problem of unfairness. Some moves are near-KO moves on one person, and others attack a wider range. The Link Super Smash we saw was merely his 1 on 1 attack, while another could involve the ocarina, or magic, in some way (just a suggestion).
Also it would fix the Samus issue that was raised. One super smash would create the change, while the others would allow her to stay as Samus or Zamus.
The idea of several Super Smashes per character is a reasonable feat, and in fact brings back more of the chaos that the super smash takes away. If you know all the characters super smashes, and a character picks up the item, you may know exactly what to do to counter it. But if a player has several super smashes to choose from, it brings back the unpredictability, and introduces a new moves set.
