Alex is too cool not to be in brawl (The Official Alex thread)

Alex is a Mercury Adept from the game Golden Sun, and is quite possibly the most powerful character of all by the end of the game, yet he's never seen actually fighting. That's ok, because he has some pretty cool skills, such as teleportation.

I don't think he's a swordsman, and he doesn't need to be one if he's given a weapon. Being a Mercury adept means he has a wide range of water and ice based attacks he could use, as well as a few puzzle solving skills. Check out his info on this wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_characters_in_Golden_Sun#Alex

I'm not saying he's the MOST deserving Golden Sun character, but if he's not then he's pretty close.

Agreed. Yup, Alex is pretty cool alright.

He would certainly fit in Brawl (and certainly appease bishie-obsessed Square-Enix fans), but I'm not sure if Camelot would want to still keep him under wraps, since his final fate is still unknown.

Does he wield nunchuks by the way? If so, that makes him even more awesome. Oh, BTW, you do see him pwn the life out of generic workmen near Venus Lighthouse.

Seeing as Camelot is a second party developer, I think Alex has a good chance, but not as high as the first party characters.

So, he has a good chance? I would like to see him in Brawl, even though I haven't heard much of him.

For your information, Metroid, with exception of Metroid Pinball, was made by first-party developers. Retro is first party.

About Pokémon, it's the second best selling franchise. Golden Sun doesn't even come close.

Y'know what, just have the original four party members from the first Golden Sun in the game. They all use different Djin and elemnts, so they all can be unique!

Anybody hear any new news for the Golden Sun title on the Wii????

There has been no news about a Golden Sun for the Wii at all.

Anyways, I would love to see Isaac and Mai (though she might be replaced by Felix :( )make it, but i dunno if Alex has a chance, especially since you never get him or fight him.

And those who say second party dont stand a chance, they stand more chance then any third party.
Ex: Kirby's in.

Really, I could have sworn I read an artical on it on 1up.com.

Then again, thats the place that had the artical about "Confirmed" new characters.

Still, I would like to see what RPG's are on the Wii (Baiten Kaitos is a no-brainer)

The only problem with Alex is that we never see him actually fight. We see him own up Laliveran soldiers at the Lighthouse with a huge grin on his face, and that's it. Of course, that didn't matter for the likes of Captain Falcon; however, in the Cap's case, no one in his universe had a potential moveset. Alex has 10-12 characters with viable movesets ahead of him (eight party members, Saturos, Menardi, Agatio, and Karst, if you count the last two). Part of that group, we have broadswords, maces, staves, scythes, and the various Psynergy moves. That's 10-12 potential new characters with moves available and movesets laid out (moreso the party characters).

That, however, is a relatively minor problem, as the ending to TLA implies that Alex gains a ****load of power (I'll leave it at that) of unknown strength that, judging by the lack of announcements, may or may not be fully explained. Sakurai could simply use his imagination and give him whatever he wanted, and it would be completely viable.

Overall, I would certainly not mind Alex in Brawl, but I'd rather have Isaac or Felix first.

I would love to see alex in brawl, but he won't get in unless Isaac/Felix does, since the heroes always come before the villains in a franchise (ex: Mario would get in before bowser, link before ganon, etc). If Isaac/Felix gets in, then alex has a good chance. He would probably get in before all the other characters would, since he is the main villain in the game.

Another thing: Does alex even need a weapon? Couldn't he just punch people to death? One thing is for sure though: he has plenty of B move opportunities.

One Last thing: I wouldn't get your hopes up for more than one or two characters. Space is limited, and there are plenty of other deserving franchises.

His official art seems to imply a weapon, but I've never figured out what (nunchuks maybe?).

Those do look like nunchuks, but they could also be some kind of supply containers. He is on his own for most of the story, after all. Nunchuks would make for an interesting moveset.

Ralph is a character from Zelda: Oracle of Ages, and is one of the only characters in the entire series to wield a sword, apart from Link and Ganon (maybe Vaati). Click on the link in my sig, would ya?

Anyway, SC3 doesn't have the kinda anime-style hair needed for Alex, or the armour and cape he has, but it does a pretty good job. I hope we can see him again one day, but as long as Camelot does not allow Golden Sun to become an Advent Children clone.

I remember hearing that there would be a Golden Sun for Wii too...

I have to agree that however awesome Alex would be, the main characters are more likely to be included.

He would be a good addition, but issac or felix will get in first ( possible 3rd party characters after camelot broke away from nintendo.Even though I still think they can make games for nintendo its only one online golf game.)

I'm pretty sure the Golden Sun series belongs to Nintendo. But all we really need is Isaac, Felix can get into SSB4, if there ever is one.

I know there's a Golden Sun for Wii, but I reckon they would focus on a different time. Though looking at Alex's popularity I reckon they should make an Alex's Quest GS. lol. Alex has lost all his power from that Circle guy. And now you have to help him regain his powers and strengths. Or maybe another Lost Age lol. Except you're playing as Alex, Saturos, Menardi and Felix. I want a another GS for GBA, or DS though. I would really like to see a trilogy in the Handheld market.

Alex would be great to see in Brawl, But i reckon that Isaac and Felix are the most likely GS characters.

I reckon Alex is one of the coolest villains, i have ever encountered in any game. He's right up there with Black Bull(F-zero), Pious Augustus(Eternal Darkness), Gannondorf, Dr. Robotnik(Sonic 1 and 2 mainly), Bowser(NES days), and the virus guys in Dr. Mario.

Alex would be very interesting, and I will support anyone who wants him in. The more the better. Alex is one of those villains that rarely comes along. And when they do show you remember why it's so good to be bad.

To be honest though I think GS characters will miss out in this Smash Bros. I'm not getting my hopes up, I would be very suprised if one of them made it. But if they don't they don't. And besides I still got GS1 and 2, and i'll get the Wii game and any other GS game that comes out.

I'd love to see this guy. He's cool and sharp at the same time.

Golden Sun was mentioned on Sakurai's list, so its still a posibility.

Alex would be awesome for brawl, though his move set would be kinda hard, even workig of Mia and Pier. But there couldn't be summons for him, it would be increadibly overpowered. Alex wa super strong but it was so awesome to see the ever loving bejezus beat out of him by the Great One or whatever...the big floating eye thingy. But there should also be Felix/Issiac, Ivan and Garret. If there isn't Alex tough it should be Pier, he pwns Mia.

Yeah, it wouldn't be THAT hard to create a moveset for Alex. For those who have played the Golden Sun games, you know that there are virtually no unique abilities for adepts (for outsiders, the characters in the game able of using "magic" a.k.a. psynergy) with the exceptions of drastically different characters in the same element (ex. Jenna (weaker, female, caster) and Garet (big, strong, warrior, also see Mia/Piers) carry different moves). So, seeing as that is, they could draw on any mercury (basically, water/ice) technique to use for Alex, and perhaps develop a new move or two. This isn't nearly as much of a stretch as many of the characters that have been put into Smash already.

Alex also has a much better chance of making in it Brawl compared to Mia. First off, the most obvious issue is that Mia's main purpose as a character was to play the role of healer (this is not only based off of battle styles, but her description and character development in the games). This creates an obvious difficulty in designing a character, especially when the most obvious specialties of the character are extremely broken (healing is very rare and/or situation in every smash game). Alex, though not much was shown, is much more obviously an aggressive character, who's role was PREVIOUSLY as a keeper of Mercury lighthouse, but his lust for power (and other reasons, trying not to spoil the game) lead him to go on his quest, which struggled against the main characters of the game (more so in GS1 than 2, but you get the idea). Furthermore, Alex is a villian which Smash clearly needs more of. Finally, he is pretty much the second most important character in the series, coming in behind Felix, and definitely ahead of Isaac...(arguement following)

NOTE: SPOILERS AHEAD, if you still wish to read please highlight the text.

Okay, in Golden Sun, Isaac was the main character in the first game, but he is not as important in the series as either Felix OR Alex. If my memory serves me correctly, Isaac is attempting to prevent Felix and Alex (along with other characters, more on that later) from lighting the four lighthouses (1 for each element) as he was told by the Wise One (a floating stone who seeks to "guard" the element powers, so to speak). Now, towards the end of GS2 you find out that Felix and Alex (who has other motives) sought to light the lighthouses to unleash the power of alchemy upon the world (in the game, a strong magical power) and prevent the world from slowly falling apart, which they find is happening. When Isaac learns of this, he seeks to help Felix continue his quest. This right here shows his subordinance to Felix once he learns the "correct" path. Therefore, we could surmise that Felix is the true main character of the series, at least in the hero department. Now, Alex is never a playable character, but he makes frequent appearances to either hinder Isaac or help Felix, as well as pursue his own desires. However, he is not heroic because of his reasoning to light the lighthouses. He disguises this with his desire to save the world and unleash alchemy, but his real goal is to achieve ultimate power from the Golden Sun (hence series name) making him the main villian of the series. Now, here's where things get a little subjective. Alex is the more important to the series than Isaac because of how he plays. Once everyone learns about what unleashing alchemy will do, there is no doubt from anyone that they must finish the quest. This makes the entire series turn out to be just an entire struggle (against, apparantly, nothing) to save the world. Alex provides the black in the plot, he is the contrast of the good. Without Alex, there is no evil in the games, it is all just one big fight against random monsters for good. Alex brings villiany. Alex brings chaos. Alex brings DEPTH. Isaac ends up just being a strong warrior who helps Felix. Jenna, Sheba, Piers, Mia, Garet, and Ivan all deserve a spot as much as Isaac as they serve the same role in the series. Therefore, Alex definitely is more important than anyone except (arguably) Felix, who I would put on an even level.

Kal aMari: Unfortunately, as much as I would love to see Saturos, Menardi, Agatio, and/or Karst in Smash Bros. this would be impossible as they are dead. That would seriously hinder their ability to appear in a super smash game.

So, pretty much I would like to have Alex and Felix representing GS in Brawl.

If they include a Golden Sun character it should be the main character of the series. I think that's Issac is it not I don't really care for the Golden Sun series much so I may be wrong.

(Spoilers in this post)

Sorry to bump this thread after so many months, but Alex is an awesome character that deserves more discussion and more support.

Of all the potential Golden Sun characters I think Alex would definitely be the coolest, but unfortunately not the most likely. He's behind Isaac and Felix who are the main characters of the series, and who also have more obviouis movesets since they actually fight.

I don't see Alex as the type to actual participate in physical combat since the only fighting he's ever done is against some random people, and he just tossed them asside with magic water pillars. To be a character, I would have to see all of his attacks be completely psynergy based. For his A attacks he could strike out with his hands and feet and stuff, but his limbs would not actual strike but a small amount of water he is magically manipulating (kind of like how Zelda's attacks have magic to them.) For his B moves he could just borrow some cool ones from Piers or Mia, or possibly have some new original ones that would be cooler.

For a final smash, I'm really not sure. Possibly the golden sun could rise in the backround, and Alex would have a short period of time where he becomes really powerful and does like 3X normal damge or something.

Alex's stage should be the top of Mt. Aleph (wouldn't be a lighthouse because if he gets in it's after Isaac who will get a lighthouse stage if he's in). I don't really have any ideas for this though except that it could collapse at some point, and then the battle continues with you fighting in the rubble or something.

If he doesn't make it as a playable character, then he better not be an AT unless it's one that's really rare and does massive awesome-ness. I just don't want to see this character to be reduced to anything less than the amazing character he was in the Golden Sun games.

And I just want to say to Skyshroud that Isaac is more important than Felix. Isaac is the main character in the first game, and very important in the second game. Not to mention, he will be the main character of any subsequent Golden Sun because at the end we learn that some of the power of the golden sun was sealed inside him by the Wise One. If Golden Sun representatives are in Brawl, the order of importancy is Isaac->Alex->Felix(as a clone of Isaac). So Felix won't be in Brawl since I think it's a lot to hope for just having one Golden Sun representative.

the bad guy before the good guy?!?! interesting... :thought: i'd like to see him, even though i HOPE and PRAY golden sun has at least one char, the bad guy is always important, even if it's not something every franchise gets be it veteran or newcomer ((f-zero, pokemon, Fire Emblem perhaps... i suppose pokemon trainer is the villain of pokemon gd slave trader)) i'd hope to see him in, although i also hope for at least isaac

i think his chances are slim for brawl, but if there's a sequel i expect him in, in some form--in brawl i'd die to see him, even as an alt color... for... isaac
