The brilliantly beautiful MMORPG by NCsoft (Lineage, City of Heroes) has been confirmed for a release date of September 22, 2009. There have been two closed beta testing periods and there will be a handful more, one of them taking place July 2-6th. If you want to take part in the CBTs, the simplest way to do so is to preorder the game! Then you can play in all beta testings and you can get a 2 day head start, playing the full game on 9/20.

The game has been out in Korea (and China?) for over a year now and the level cap is currently 50. It is set in a fantasy setting with two factions, the Elyos (imagine fair human/elves) and the Asmodians (imagine dark human/elves). It has an interesting PvE, PvP, and PvPvE system, and after level ten you earn your pair of angel's wings and can FLY. Flight combat is so hardcore. The game is soloable or partyable throughout and endgame is raids and bosses and PvP.

There are four basic classes that each branch out into two specific classes, for example Warriors can become Templars or Gladiators, Scouts can become Rangers or Assassins, Mages can become Sorcerers or Spiritmasters, and Priests can become Clerics or Chanters. I think the party system is 6man.

The game is BEAUTIFUL. Worlds are amazing and characters are hella customizable. Everything is so gorgeous looking.

There are already nice communities like Aionsource for information about anything Aion related that you cannot find at the official link above.

Who else is looking forward to this!? I preordered the game last night and downloaded the client so that I could take part in this coming weekend's CBT. The level cap I think is 20 for the CBT and you can play either side (Elyos! :D).

My friend was obsessing over this recently as his lust for Guild Wars nostalgia began to kick in. Of course it didn't last long, but this game looks interesting to say the least. Aesthetically, it recalls Jade Empire, Spyro, and some bits of Final Fantasy. A little over-the-top for me though. I like the "edginess" factor in games; rough environments, darker, brooding atmospheric elements cast over or under any sort of game structure. This game just looks a little to "soapy" for me. I'm sure the gameplay is divine, but the over-exaggerated, pseudo-eastern-heavenly architecture with angels flying around just isn't my thing.

I'd rather play as a one-armed trash goblin trying to survive in a junk yard of countless tire stacks for miles and miles. Personal preference :)

Bump, because I got my Open Beta key and wish to discuss serious matters in slaying not one, not some, but ALL Asmodians.
