After Brawl...

This post is entirely theoretical. If this thread is not in the right place, I don't know where else to put it.
On Dec. 3, 2007, 6 years to the day Melee was released in the US, Brawl will be released. Thousands of people will flock to buy it, and it will probably will be the bestseller for the Wii this year. What will happen after that?
Of course, everyone will love the game, probably more than Melee (that's why we buy it anyway). Then people will start to think about the next game...
I know you guys are like, "Why are you taking about this? It's too early." But that's just it.
I really don't ever think there is gonna be another game. Not only is there a rumor going around about the Wii being Nintendo's last console (I don't think that's the problem; Nintendo could survive at least three console crashes as bad as the Virtual Boy and still live with the money they've made), Brawl was almost never made. Sakurai said in the early days of the website that he had to come back to HAL to do the game, kind of like Miyazaki had to come out of retirement twice to make two movies.
It has just been announced that Brawl will be gold by October 19th (or 16th, I forget). Sakurai is finishng the game as I type. So you people posting suggestions hoping Sakurai will read them, the game is pretty much done. No new characters are being added now at the time of release. Not for anything. Not if some poor kid who's dying wills it to Make-a-Wish Foundation (yes, I know how horrible that sounds). Maybe on WiiConnect24, but not at the time of release.
So you guys are saying, "What's the point of this thread?" The point is for you to post how you think about this. Do you think there will be another Smash Bros. game? Do you think updates to Brawl such as new characters, stages, e.t.c. will be available? What do you think will happen after Brawl is released?

I don't think I could ever see an end to Nintendo. I don't think this is the end of Super Smash Smash Bros. either. Nintendo loves boasting about all the projects and history they have, even right back to the Nintendo playing cards. Clubhouse Games actually had the Koi-Koi cardgame which you played with digital versions of the original playing cards, which I actually thought was pretty neat.

I don't think there will be any updates or bug fixes released for download either. Nor do I think they will release a Brawl+.

Something I predicted before this generations consoles came out, was that there was going to be a video game crash sometime soon. Could you imagine people just losing interest in video games completely? It could happen...

But I've kinda lost faith in that prediction lately, things are goin' pretty good for VGames these days, so I'm gonna bet that they's gonna be around for a long time.

I can't say what's going to happen for Nintendo in the future, but I do think it's going to be golden.

Even though Sakurai left HAL to persue his own endeavors, I don't think Brawl will be the last Smash.

Just because Sakurai doesn't want to work on it isn't a good enough reason to just cancel the franchise. Look at it this way; Nintendo built an entire development team, JUST for Brawl. They may as well call themselves Team Smash. Do you people think that Nintendo is just going to liquidate the team after Brawl's release? Of course not. Did they liquidate Retro Studios after the release of Prime 3? I actually haven't checked, but I assume that they didn't.

This development team is now working under and being taught by Sakurai himself. Even without him, they'll have enough of a grasp on the franchise to continue things on their own.

My prediction? After the release of Brawl, they'll begin work on one of two things. If Brawl is WiiConnect24 enabled, I think they might create content patches every so often with new stages, items, and bug fixes. If it isn't, I think they'll start work on Super Smash Bros. DS right away. The next console Smash won't come for another ~6 years.

Maybe they'll even find new projects to work on. Super Smash Bros. Racing? Who knows.

But I do not think for a second, that just because this is Sakurai's last, that makes this the last Smash Bros.

None of your business.
Nintendo will never end. Microsoft and Sony's console market, however, will die eventually. Just like Sega's...slowly...painfully...

And in the next Smash Bros., if Sakurai doesn't work on it, I foresee complete and utter failure in Nintendo's greatest franchise. But I've been wrong before...

Smash Bros. DS sound plausible. Think of it this way. HAL Lab was created and developed a couple games before finding its main: Kirby. Bungie finished Halo, now it will work on other projects. I get your point with Sakurai not developing it. Harmonix didn't develop the new Guitar Hero, but critics are calling it the best one yet. I can't say if there will be another real Smash Bros., just as I can't say if there will be another real Halo game.

Well, after brawl it's like saying after halo or basically what's happening now.
I'm not certain on another smash bros. game.
After brawl, I'm not expected to see updates to the game at all.

Exactly. GH3 is being made by a completely different company, but it's shaping up to be the best one yet.
I'm sure that there will be atleast ONE more smash, DS or home Console, even if Sakurai isn't making it. His development team knows enough about Smash to continue I assume, and I don't think Nintendo will die any time soon, atleast while Miyamoto is alive.

Even if this was the last Smash game, which I don't think it will be, Nintendo wouldn't crash at all. The reason why people play Smash is so they can be their favorite characters. Even if we couldn't use all the characters together we'd still buy their indiviual games. The reason why it took so long to get Brawl, was simply that they needed time to get more characters it might take us another six years or more but I would buy it. What I'm trying to say is as long as there are more characters we can fight with, there can be definetly another Super Smash Brothers.

If another SSB is made Sakurai will have to scrounge for chars, sooner or later Nintendo will run out of chars to put in unless we get some more like Snake or if Nintendo starts some new franchises.

If Brawl turned out to be the last Smash game, it would have to be incredibly epic. The Smash series, or possibly trilogy, has to end in a good note. This game has to be peerfect. If it is, and I think we all know the answer to that, then I think that Sakurai will be happy know that he made a trilogy that pleased everyone. Who knows, perhaps there will be a fourth.

I thought that Melee was going to be the last Smash game, so I could be wrong.

I think that all of us would agree however, that having fewer games that are far between is much better then having a series of many games that are increasingly shoddy (mario party anyone?). If brawl continues the streak of improvement in the franchise, then we shouldn't need another game for quite some time, and even then there should be drastic changes for it to even be necessary. I don't see how most consoles in this gen could improve enough to make an entire new console... save the wii having more graphical potential

What you mean "after Brawl "

The first few minutes I will adore the game with the opening, menu's etc.
Probaly after 3 years I will keep playing the game intensively.

Is it you mean after 6 years?

I tell you, I will keep playing SSBB either till next sequel or till I die.

SSB serie is special because you don't know if there is a next or if it will be any good.
Street Fighter fans never had the chance to perfect there character, why? they make a sequel like every half year, street fighter 2 turbo alpha vs comic and what have you.

They remake the Street Fighter series too darn much, that's why it gets old.
On another note, a true sequel makes people want to play all of the games. Halo 3 was not Halo 2 with added features. It was a completely different game. What I mean by that is after I played Halo 2, I wasn't like "Wow, no one should buy this after Halo 3 comes out". It was still pretty darn fun, Halo 3 was better, though.

Since it will be six years to the day new Smash material will be set at out feet, we will be overjoyed. I will play the game (and Melee, if it still works) well into the 2010s (no, I'm not kidding). I will play it until my Wii breaks and they don't sell new ones. And after that, I will find a way to play it if it kills me (by that time, there should be some Wii emulators, there are already some GC ones).
And what I meant be "after Brawl" is after the game comes out. December 3rd is a day that will go down in history, indeed.

Nintendo will keep making consoles forever... They care about one thing and one thing only. Making more MONEY which is why they will continue making consoles and video games as long as there is money to be made.

As for ending the Super Smash Brother series, it is possible they might make Brawl the last of them but if I were a business man or CEO of Nintendo. I sure as hell wouldn't stop making Super Smash Brother games.

All tho, Halo 3 is rumored to be the last Halo game (Halo FPS) to be made. Spin-offs like Halo Wars should make good money too. I think Microsoft would be idiots not to make more Halo games in the future with all the money they have been making. Another example is Final Fantasy, they have made billions on all the FF games and they are still going. FF11 online has made so much money it is ********. FF13 should be a PS3 seller when it comes out. I wouldn't be amazed if 100 years from now, they were still making FF games. Long live Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft. There are still more wonderful games to be made. ;)

Final Fantasy 15 is going to be lifelike, at the rate we're going. Have you frickin SEEN Brawl's graphics? They're 360!
Back on topic, Microsoft will make more Halo games, since they own the name Halo. But, since Bungie split from Microsoft (with blessings and futher contrbution) to become it's own company, Nintendo would be idiots not to beg for a game made for the Wii made by a famous FPS maker (Nintendo is a bit low on good FPSs right now). And since Project Orion (eccentally F.E.A.R 2 without the F.E.A.R. name) is being made with a differend publisher, we could see something similar on the Wii (Marathon on the VC, or a Halo spinoff without the Halo name). Or ever better, a killer FPS series for the Wii like Halo that would sell Wii's...that would teach those fanboy *******s...
And that's what would happen after Brawl. Keep posting, though. This is getting interesting and good...

If there was another Smash Bros, there'd have to be a MASSIVE amount of new characters that Nintendo developed before this said "Smash Brothers 4" Why do I say this? Because they're seriously running out of characters!

However, this idea could have an opposite effect, and there will be a huge level of 3rd Party Characters, thereby making it the greatest fighting game of all time!

Scenario 1 in my mind, will lead to a total failure. Nintendo is TERRIBLE at original ideas, making up for this by constantly recycling old characters. I know someone will stay up for three days to prove me wrong on this next point...but the last time they ushered in a new series, they had to borrow off an anime! (I don't think Pokemon is Nintendo's original creation...is it?)

Nintendo...I hate to say it....will probably be the first to go, as Sega did, with failure after failure. Then Microsoft's gaming division will die out once Gates kicks the bucket (I heard all $40 billion is going to charity) and then Sony'll be pooping out PSs until the end of its day

Yes, Pokemon is Nintendo's original series. That's why the anime sucks now. Because it's a cash-in.
With a bunch of third-party characters, that could work. Believe it or not, it would now, in theory, be possible to have Master Chief, Snake, and Mario fighting it out it Smash 4.
I know all of you have heard me talking about Bungie's peaceful split from Microsoft. That's good for all of us who have Wiis, if they're interested in developing for us (they probably are, because the PS3 isn't that different from 360, and they could develop for PC anyway with Microsoft).
I don't think there will be an Xbox 3, though. Microsoft will eventually realize that even in the face of Halo (which is now, in theory, over except for spinoffs), they would be better off having them develop for PC, which many more people have.

Super Smash Bros is like the Olympics of video gaming. They might come every 6-10 years instead of 4, but I'm fairly certain that there will be a new Super Smash Bros eventually. If not, something very similar will come in Super Smash Bros' place.

If Sakurai does make one after Brawl, he should work on it during Brawl Post Production. By the time the After Brawl releases, it'll have been perfected. It'll be the Spore of Smash games, worked on for 8 years, kept everyone waiting, but will be PERFECT.

This is the ultimate hope. (in my opinion)
Super Smash Bros. Final Fight. (title for the last one). 40 characters, 10 hour long new adventure mode and 130 items, and more downloadable content from Wiiconnect24 arriving soon.

Makes me sad, because it probably won't happen... :,(

Woah woah woah - SSB3 (Brawl) isn't even out yet, and you're thinking about SSB4? Heck, the Wii is less than a year old: it's at least another 3-4 years until we get a new Nintendo home console. Let's transit into the 8th generation before we think about its games...

It did happen. Nintendo saw and noticed it. They called it "Gamer Drift." And they decided to do something about it - Wii and DS.

There's even a video on Nintendo's website, in the corporate section, I think, that has mention of it.

It's hard to say what'll happen to Smash Brothers. A lot can happen in 5-6 years. On one hand, you'd say there's no way they'd let the series die. On the other hand, Metroid went a long time after Super Metroid before getting another game - and Super Metroid was insanely popular.

I'd love to see Smash DS, but it's just impossible to know what'll happen in the future.

The DS really made a name for itself after a while and so did the Wii. Really to me, the PS3 kinda is a waste of money, but *sarcastic voice* I'm just a skewed fanboy *sarcastic voice ends here*. Has it occured to any GI readers here that no PS3 game has gotten a 10? There's been one for Wii and one for 360, but none for PS3. I repeat: NO GAMES (wait, I didn't say that before).
Smash DS seems plasuable, especially since Mario Kart Wii, the follow-up to Mario Kart DS (in both name, logo, and look) comes out soon. We may see Smash DS, or something like that, fairly soon.
As for the next console Smash game, there will be another. I am almost sure of it. When? God knows.

I really don't know what will happen to Smash if Sakurai doesn't do another game, just as I don't know what will happen to Nintendo when Myimoto dies (if he ever does). But for now, I going to rest my case, because I don't know what else to say.
