Aerial landing lag, and grab concerns?

Hello (I'm not sure if this warrants its own thread or not, but I wasn't sure where to go with it...)...

I've been listening to opinions across the web about the new Super Smash Bros. game, and a couple common ones I'm hearing are about aerial landing lag, and the inability to follow-up on grabs. Could someone please elaborate in greater detail about these short-comings? Is it really noticeable in comparison to Brawl, or only noticeable compared to Melee? To be more precise, I'm more-so curious to know how different it is from Brawl. My friends and I prefer Brawl to Melee, overall.

Regarding aerial lag, if I for instance were playing Ike, and was Fair and Nair happy, would how the physics of the new game seriously damage that play-style from Brawl, and make me even more open with each missed Nair?

Given your preferences, I wouldn't be worried if I was you. You sure can be Fair and Nair happy again.

I think people who have issues with the new games are those of us who were not really satisfied with brawl's mechanics, and we're seeing the same thing coming again.

I can kind of second that, but, the thing is that some moves have been made worse. Others better too, I'm sure, but for example, I noticed that Marth has an ungodly amount of lag on some of his moves now, even compared to Brawl. I also prefer Brawl for playing (though nothing beats watching Melee imo) but I did notice some character specific tweaks to lag that are worrying me just slightly.

I personally wouldn't worry about it too much as the demo was likely made a few months before the e3 event.

Pretty much:

Throws send opponents too far for follow ups

Aerials had more lag after landing than usual.

I'm sure it'll be fixed by the time it's released, the aerial lag that is.

Throw knockback is likely intended, as is the aerial lag.

Ehh, possibly, I wouldn't be surprised if the throw knockback is intended, but I feel that the aerial lag will be reduced

In that case, it sounds like a balancing issue. I didn't think Marth was all that strong in Brawl, but he was good. I do hear that he has a grab now that can kill, so they're rearranging his power game. My guess is that Marth is being changed to accommodate Chrom, if he makes it in as rumored.

I think the aerial lag was made soo people can STOP spaming the same air attack over and over, I like it but at the same time am worry, is like each aerial attack need to hit and don't be miss. I like REALLY the air dodge landing lag for more punish.

I think the grab system can trow far away for better K.O. But I think the main reason is made by this is because of the Chain Grab and combos that people do whyout giving the opportunity to breath. Just look at King dedede Chain Grab and Marth combo killer moves. That why grab are buffed for that reason.

I like the new grab but I really worried about with aerial landing lag.

I figured that the knockback from throws was intended to avoid chain-grabbing. And if aerial lag wasn't planned on being reduced before E3 I think Sakurai is considering reducing it now.

Well.. The aerial land does make sense for punishment purposes. If I were for instance, to jump in front of you right now and throw a punch or kick and miss, I'd be left vulnerable for a moment.

The grab system from the sounds of it, with Marth getting a KO throw, sounds an awful a lot like Super Smash Bros. 64. 64 had kill throws all over the place, and I kind of really did like it. :) For chain-grabbing, I somewhat feel that they could have the engine limit the grabs that allow chain-grabbing, but then again, it'd probably look glitchy, hence people are being thrown further. I don't suspect Ike's throw for instance to change much. He never had any potential for chain-grabs.

@ kazrisk kazrisk I suspect that Sakurai is indeed looking into it. At E3, Nintendo had a number of representatives asking players what they would like to see changed, improved, etc. from the demo build.

Shields in this game are strong enough to not gimp aerials.

Cool if you want to make stuff more punishable... But keep in mind Brawl attacks were unsafe enough that many characters were unable to have an offense... So it was not enough!? Clearly better defensive features needed <.<
