Hey all, just wanted to see the general consensus here. When I watch tourney matches it doesnt really show the players hands so I cant see but do you guys have to move the positions of your hands when you do more than a double shine? Double shines are easy to do with a regular grip but when I try to do 3 or more shines I have to put my index on B and middle finger on Y. Should I practice trying to triple shine with my thumb or practice changing my controller grip faster?

p.s Hax$ hexashine had me like :surprised:

nah just use the normal grip. multishining isn't really going to boost your falco game too much. i know it's fun to learn all this tech and if that's what you wanna do that's fine but I can tell you right now that if your goal is to beat other people learning to multishine this early on (i assume from your join date) is one of the biggest wastes of time toward that end.

falco's actually cool because there is a lot of practicing-alone type stuff you can do with him that will tangibly improve your games with him but multishining is just a novelty for this character. i double shine shields sometimes but falco's multishine is slower than fox and it stales. people can just buffer moves out of shield and you didn't really get much out of it

Thank you for your knowledge Varist. I will stick with the thumb grip, and maybe invest my time into something else. I just wanted to try it because I see falcos double/triple shining on a shield into a full hop all the way to the top platform, then can drop into a dair or whatever from there.

I am relatively new, and am still practising shffling, waveshining and wavelanding but I do enjoy looking for new ways to step my game up :)

keep it up brah. Once you know the waveshine timing and you get the idea behind wavelanding (you don't even really need to know how to do it for this) I would go for shine wavelands.

#1 tech skill to practice would be shine wavelanding onto platforms from below. Getting that consistent revolutionizes how far you can extend your combos against fast fallers and it's criminal that we don't emphasize how important that tech is to new Falcos.

Get a level 3 or 1 Fox or whatever you want and pick Battlefield. Make him walk toward you until you and him are both below one of the side platforms. Shine him so that he lands on the platform above you. That's the position you want to keep recreating: you below him, him standing on the platform.

Full hop, but you have to be fast because while you're accelerating up towards him, be already holding down on your analog stick. Press B to activate shine when your body is below the platform but your head is poking through the top. Your shine should connect with the Fox. As soon as the hitbox touches the Fox through the floor, press y to use your double jump. Remember that you're still holding down on the analog stick. Literally immediately after you press Y for your DJ press whatever trigger button you airdodge with so that you waveland directly down onto the platform.

That all takes like half a second and it puts you into position to do a dair or an uptilt or whatever you want to pillar with. Just get consistent at that and your Falco will automatically become legit and you can actually start learning combo stuff instead of just wasting time jumping around trying to get rising dairs to hit people or whatever it is new falcos do on platform stages.

There's something about falco's jump that makes it easier to do multishines, the thing is if you want to make it a somewhat viable option is that you have to do them very fast, or at least fast enough. Btw, lastime i checked, you still get hit even if you buffer a roll while being multishined if the fox/falco player did it fast enough, this is most likely to happen with fox since he jc shines so fast...
