Hello! I'm posting this here and a similar topic in the Falco board to try and get different people's opinions on it.

I was thinking about choosing Falco as my main, but after playing with him a bit I began to realize how slow he was and I couldn't really find easy ways to combo. So, I looked around for some videos on Falco, and the general competitive stance on him seems to be "Falco is just a worse Fox".

So, my question is this; what advantages does Fox have over Falco? I know the basic differences already; that's not what I'm asking about. I want to know what Fox's distinct advantages are. For example, Falco is generally slower and hits harder than fox, but while this is a 'difference', it's not necessarily an advantage for falco because powerful hits don't really matter if you can't ever connect (e.g. nearly every heavy character).

Hey, also posted on your Falco over Fox thread. I gave 5 reasons Falco is better than Fox so I'll give 5 reasons Fox is better than Falco. For Fox I would say...

1) Better up-tilt and up-smash, can combo up-tilt for a long while and even at mid-late percents up-tilt can combo into fair. Up-smash kills much better with Fox than Falco.

2) Longer recovery, Fire Fox goes much farther than Fire Bird

3) Quicker laser and less ending lag makes Fox's lasers usually better than Falco's for on-stage damage racking.

4) Much faster sprint speed.

5) Much faster jab, harder to escape after 1 or 2 hits of jab.

Speed. If there's nothing you take away from Fox in comparison to Falco, its speed.

I personally have never seen a difference between the timing of Fox and Falco's lasers, I would have to say Fox and Falco have about the same amount of range when it comes to recovery, much better than say Yoshi or....Little Mac.

- Yup, the biggest difference is speed. Fox is much better at punishing mistakes, and many of his punish options create better combos. For example, a quick dash attack from Fox has less knock-back than Falco's, and so it strings into his aerials much more easily.
- Fox's side B has a longer hitbox than Falco's. Only the blue phase effect of Falco's has a hitbox, while Fox himself has a hitbox on his side-B. However, Fox's doesn't spike like Falco's does.
- Fox's N-air doesn't really have landing lag and can lead into U-smash for a kill. Falco's is just a multi-hit that doesn't really lead into anything.
- Fox's Up-B goes higher than Falco's. This is probably to compensate for Falco's ridiculous jump height.
- Fox's Up-air is straight up better than Falco's. Kills much earlier and combos into itself at lower percents.
- Fox's reflector is consistent and therefore doesn't have endlag that can be punished - you can act straight out of it. Also, you can use it to stall during recovery for a mixup, which Falco can't.
- Fox's U-tilt combos into itself much better than Falco's, and covers behind Fox. With Falco, you have to turn-around F-tilt to catch an opponent behind you.
- Fox's lasers aren't necessarily better or worse, just different. It's up to preference - they're easier to slip in for extra damage, but Falco's are better for stopping your opponent's momentum.

I actually think the MU is 50 50, but think about falco's good punish game, and fox like has the same punish game but his moves are easier to land and his speed is great
