Adding custom stages

So i got stage expansion 2.0 and i got it working. Right now i have about 5 custom stages but there is a problem. Seems like the stages i download that come with their own rel file don't work with stage expansion 2.0. Stage expansion 2.0 comes with rel files that you need to rename when you add a custom stage but what if a stage i download comes with its own rel file? I've tried both the rel files and both freeze the game when i select that stage.

I'm also new to all this but for me all the stages work, I just use the .rel file they came with.

However if you do use the .rel from the stage expansion pack, make sure you put it over the correct stage and name it correctly.


Now just a question, did you happen to be successful at making your own icons and names?

Yes i made my own icons...but i didn't bother with the names.

Nice, so In Brawl Box do you know how to add more pictures? I can only find the replace feature and since the code gives me 37 extra spots, I need to add pictures.

Or do you happen to have the common5.pac for this code?

in order to use rel files with custom stages, you need to change the 'xx' value of 38 A5 00 00 38 80 00 XX in the rel file to '00'.

open the rel files using a hex editor here:

it's labeled HxD. I assume this works, dont use it myself.

then rename the edited rel file to st_customyy.rel and the pac file stgcustomyy.pac and place in their respective directories

if you ever get to using almas' clone engine to expand stages, then the .rel file is shared from the pf directory regardless of where the .pac file's loaded from

You need a common5.pac file...you open it with brawl box and in the stage expansion download they give you a misc80 to replace. From there you can add icons etc. The stage expansion 2.0 download gave me a tutorial and the misc80 file..here it is in case you need it
