I was thinking about this. People general assert that taking out most stages and items in the Smash tournaments are essentially taking away from what the game is offering. And while the creators obviously put a lot of work to make a great selection of varied stages and items, I disagree with this point. In contrast, I think taking away items and awkward stages ADDS to the gameplay. Think of it. More emphasis on the one on one combat aspects and all the subtleties that make the game a beautifully designed game. And this combat has so many layers added without the extra distractions of items or stage hazards. Ever since I have been fighting on the bare bones of selection I find the fights I partake or more interesting. On the other side though, the items and stage antics do give Smash a very unique take on fighting games. I mean how many fighting game stages were simply a flat stage with a different background (hint: all of them).

To make this relevant to the forum. How do you feel items will affect the general deepness of Brawl. Will you simply stick to no items immediately or will you give them a shot. Also, do you feel there are specific stages or items that when included could actually enrich the gameplaying experience.

Peace.

I want to use assist trophies and lightning!
Once the craze is gone, though, it's back to nothing but brute force.

i will play around with them and decide which ones are better. (better ex. in melee: warp star, red shells, pokeballs etc...)(worse ex. in melee: Mr Saturn, food, party ball etc...)

Based on the items shown so far, I think items will do what they've always did with the game. They provide power ups and obstacles for the players to overcome while trying to take each other out.

But it all depends on how you define enriching the gameplay experience, of course. I don't think the new items are going to, in the long run, change anyones opinions about the skill or lack thereof that an items match brings to the table. However, there will be a lot of new and returning members coming to the community so maybe they will have some interesting insight into the subject.

Well I really do enjoy fighting on the bare bones of Char on char with no items. Unfortunatley my friends are a new section of nazis whos NEVER use items. So I will enjoy the "for reals" battles with them, and just go online when I want to use items. I get the best of both worlds.

R.M.B. were else?
at first I will use items, once they lose thier flare and fun Ill go to tourney rules, then once that gets boreing Ill rotate the settingevery other match. but this game looks to be one of those "never becomes boreing" games.

taking out stages and items made melee fair. that makes sense when playing for money no? essentially when playing that way in friendlies you are training to get better for competitive play. when you play with items and stages you are just having fun. nothing is wrong with either option, it just puts emphasis in different areas.

You guys seriously have no idea how gay it gets when they're are to tournament players using items... Plz stop with this they will be banned. I don't know why everybody wants them anyways. They'll end up banning all the broken items anyways. Seriously, what good is Lip's stick? A projectile, that's f'in it.

Thats a good way of explaining why bad stages and items are banned. Crazy stages and items tend to force playing a specific way instead of letting you use the full your character's full move set, so they really do take away from the battle rather than adding to it. Smash balls are no different. Instead of pulling off a intricate combo with proper spacing, precise timing, prediction of your opponents, and a bit of mind games to KO your opponent, with Smash Ball's you press B and its pretty much over in most cases. Some of the final smashes seem to require some skill, but no where near as much as doing a real combo.

People who want items/banned stages in tournaments seriously need to go host some themselves and/or and attend tournaments that do allow them instead of QQing in the forums all day long, lol.

Items are fun for screwing around with noobs or just in general. I'll probably screw around with items when I first get the game too. After learning the controls then i'll worry about serious play.. ;)

There is an official item discussion thread if you really want to talk about items in the Brawl boards, "to make this relevant to the forum".
