...it was a closed media event with an embargo that lasts till September 13th.
We aren't going to hear/see anything till the Japan release.

Yeah I'm not super super sure what the actual point of such a media event is. All those media outlets were likely to have imported 3DS' anyway and would've gotten that info to us on or around the 13th with or without Nintendo giving them an inside scoop. But oh well, I'm just salty.

Same, but I feel like I'm glad the game got leaked a bit so Nintendo knows the pain we feel when we're starving for info....

Who was invited to the embargo'ed event though. That is what I'm interested in. Hopefully they got a group from all sorts of smash fanbases. Some competitive players, they have the people from gamexplain, some media people, ect ect. If it is all just media people who all kinda fit into one group of smash players I'd be very disappointed considering how well Nintendo has done lately, and surprised since I would think they would invite a lot of different people.

Oh yeah, I have always been curious, to what extent does the embargo restrict media? Can people T the closed media event still comment on mechanics and their impressions without detailing things? Or is it more akin to the review embargos where nothing can be said about the games final copy until the embargo lifts?

Depends on the NDA agreement that Nintendo had placed on them in this case. Given that nothing has come out they've liternally embargoed all information related what went on during the event including any impression, data, or facts.

Sigh, well what can we do. Seems outdated with the advent of youtube. On Sept 13 I wont care what the media says and I would rather just watch a play through of the 3DS version and decide for myself how it is.

Right, if there is no info about this event until the launch in Japan then it's just useless to do this event in the first place.

I mean, haven't you seen the Ridley comments? Some dude texted a guy from GameXplain about it and got something akin to "can't tell ya."

The point is to give journalists time to work on articles and what not so they can just push them out as soon as the embargo is up. If they rely on the Japanese release they have to wait for the game to ship, and then get a feel for the game and then write it about it.
