Naw. It's a bit more contriversial than that.

See, there are a certain type of person that thinks you only can play Smash with items. This is the "real" way to play it. Thus, they took it as a personal b****-slap in the face to tourney goers that they are playing "wrong."

When in actuality, yes, there's an item switch. If you were truly only meant to play with items, then there would be no item switch.

And yes, there is no true way to play Smash. It's all subjective.

We know that it has been confirmed for a while now. The real issue that people have with the quote is the competitive vs. casual style of play.

This didn't really need it's own thread though, but I understand what you're trying to say.
