Iron Maiden plays similar to the Ice Climbers. The main difference, however, is that instead of controlling a pair of ****** children, you control six famed musicians. Much like the Ice Climbers, each member has his own health bar that remains hidden while only Steve Harris' percentage is shown, and if he gets KO'd, it's game over. While they all follow the same set of controls, each of the members of the band have slight variations of the same moveset, so you'll get some visual variety when you perform that dashing attack, or upward smash.
Despite this, however, they all share the same set of "B" moves, and act with a single mind as they perform them. And it is truly the "B" moves that makes Iron Maiden such a deadly competitor.
Neutral B - The Wicker Man: The band launches a huge, flaming effigy in an arc towards the enemy. Upon contacting the ground or an enemy, it detonates in a large area of effect explosion, knocking back anyone unfortunate enough to be close enough to ground zero. Only one Wicker Man can be on screen at a time, to prevent spamming.
Smash B - The Trooper: Iron Maiden charges forward, wielding their instruments as bayonets. They are still vulnerable as they charge, and any damage they receive will increase their charging speed and damage dealt. Has a fair amount of lag time as they recover.
Down + B - Transylvania: The band plays an instrumental as long as the B button is held down. As long as they are playing, vampires will fly around the stage attacking anything in their path.
Up + B - Flight of Icarus: The band summons gigantic eagle-wings, with which they fly back to the stage on. However, if they fly too high, they will begin to take fire damage.
Final Smash - Number of the Beast: The screen darkens slightly as Iron Maiden begins to play their infamous Number of the Beast. As they play, cultists will appear and attack the enemy with sacrificial daggers and fireballs. Random fireballs will also fly around the stage as the song goes on, eventually being replaced by random explosions that will KO anyone caught in them. If the enemy can survive the barrage of fireballs, explosions and devil-worshipers for long enough, Satan himself will appear and begin to assault the opponent using his lava breath and laser-vision. If the opponent somehow manages to survive this four minute, fifty-three second gauntlet of cultists, fireballs and Satan, they will be in no condition to fight Iron Maiden in combat, and a victory after this Final Smash would be nothing short of a miracle.
It's a well known fact: Iron Maiden's gonna get you, no matter how far.
