This failed in the Broom, but I figured it might have a shot here.
Well, this weekend marked the thirtieth anniversary of the beginning of Winter Guard International (Indoor Percussion started in the late 80s). My alma mater went for the 4th time this year and placed fairly well. (6th place overall, but the best score in our schools history; one place shy of our 5th in the world) After watching several groups, I wanted to see footage that basically defined me musically.
Riverside Community College (named because most of the participants attend the school in California) performed a show based on South Africa's independence. They won gold medal (first in the world, beating out even a Japanese percussion line). Their bass line (seen in the second clip) and snare line executes some insane techniques (split rolls between everyone). I saw this live and I was actually on the mat while they played both the bass solo and snare solo. Talking to these guys, really showed me how connected they were to their music.
Riverside Community College Part 1
Riverside Community College Part 2
I doubt anyone cares, save maybe EE, but I really had to pass this on because it was so cool. I've seen clip two at least 100 times.
Tell me what you think.
