A suggestion so good it WILL be added after devs read this (stage striking instructions)

I've been to plenty of melee tournaments where a PM tourney was hosted as a side event, and I've seen the same thing happen every time: Most people don't know the official ban procedure or how to use the built in striking feature (they just say **** it and revert to old fashioned method)

SOLUTION: On the stage select screen, have a text box that lists some form of:
First match: Ban in 1-2-2-1 fashion.
Next matches: Winner bans 3 stages, then loser chooses stage, then winner chooses character, followed by loser.
Then a simple info-graphic which shows the buttons for striking or resetting stages on the screen. At the last tournament I went to the "resident PM guy" (there's always that one expert who has to teach everyone else) didn't even know you could undo the strikes if you made a mistake.

Except that a tournament can go by any rules they like for striking and bans

Showing what the buttons do would be nice though

The problem is with this is that some tournaments have different stage striking rules, and perhaps the standard will change one day. However you could talk to @Lunchables as he has a really good mod to the SSS which has exactly what you're talking about.

True, but 99% of the time the standard ruleset is used, and if tournaments want to make their own rule, you just ignore the default of what it says (notice how the stage choices themselves are based on the standard ruleset, when you press Y). Having the standard listed is better than nothing?...

It would look less professional for the vanilla standard. All you need to do is get a modded SSS. Simple.

I think it would also be nice to display the stage strike controls for new players on the SSS. X to strike, Z to undo, etc.

Doesn't Y ban everything not in the random stage select?

I've actually seen this in some tournament builds of PM so this isn't really anything new.
^^^
This I actually see this all this all the time a lot of the tournament builds will just have the instructions built
I think this is the best way to go about it considering the rules can be different like everyone said

They don't want to just straight up say like "This is the way you play Project M"

Stage Striking isn't complicated really. Anyone who says **** it is either entirely lazy, suffers from overexposure to YOLO. or just misinformed.

In order for something like this to happen, the community will have to agree on a normalized stage striking procedure. I agree with 1-2-2-1, but the stage list isn't consistent from tournament to tournament. I like the idea of weeklies/monthlies having their own lists, makes the game more interesting. PM has so many different choices in characters and stages that it would be disappointing to limit them right now.

There's a nice feeling to just agreeing on a first stage to play on, though.

Lol, I've been playing for 7 months and I didn't know about the Z to undo thing. I always just backed out of stage select. Definitely would like to have some sort of info on the SSS to help new players, and morons like myself.

I made this for the exact reasons listed in this thread:

It can go over the bg icon in misc data 20 in the selmap section in common5.pac. I plan on asking my friends to polish it, as I literally just used google images for every single word.
