A quick question about shield DI

Or lack thereof.

I've noticed that, atleast in 3.02, shield DI simply is not a mechanic, or it just doesn't work like it does in Melee at all. Honestly, i've never noticed if this was a thing in previous PM versions, and if it's meant to be that way, then that's cool. But i really find it odd that you just can't do this in PM at all (Very obvious with things like falcon's rapid jab on shield, for example).

I mean, I've noticed several instances in where shield DI would work in Melee, but it simply does nothing in PM. I've never felt that when i try to DI on my shield i move at all, but in Melee the difference was veeeery noticeable. The most obvious like i said in the original post is shielding vs CF's jabs, you can basically weave in and out of the hitboxes in Melee, but i'm pretty sure you just can't move at all in PM.

Have you seen the recent games between Armada and Prof? Prof shield SDi pit's rapid jab in one of those sets. His character took a very notable shift in one direction.

hmm interesting. Its funny because i was actually going to post something exactly like this until i saw that this thread was here. I for one, have never been able to do that in PM, and I often try to. I was actually going ask how other people are trying to DI in shield because i though i was doing it wrong. do you just tilt the control stick or do you have to smash it? does the c stick help?

Push the C stick in the direction you wish to Di. You do it while your shield is in hitstun. The greater the hitstun, the larger the window you have to actually do it.
I think you can do it to stop from being knocked off the edge when people hit your shield. There is probably a limit to that, like jabs or something.

Even with the C-stick it's not working like it should (It didn't work at all from what i tried). In Melee, all you had to do was to hold the control stick towards the direction you wanted to DI, and you would move automatically. If the PM version implies SDI exactly on the hitstun frames of whatever attack is hitting you, it'd be completely ridiculous and unviable. I'd rather just drop my shield and escape the jabs regularly.

well i think in this case, this is something that the PMBR does intend to have match melee. they intend for shield pushback and DI mechanics to be the same. i know they are still having issues with shield pushback, so maybe this is something on the list.

No it is not. This is a completely different game and should be treated as such.
That's like saying they shouldn't have integrated L canceling or wavedashing into the game because it's from melee. Melee will forever be a part of PM whether you like it or not. It's not a clone but you can't deny that melee has a big influence on it.

a lot of the mechanics were inteded to be transferred exactly as they were in melee. i almost cant tell if youre being sarcastic or not.

You misunderstand. Just because the game is 'like' Melee, doesn't mean it 'is' or 'needs to be' exactly Melee. They are two completely seperate entities that do not need to be compared.

I'm asking if the mechanic is supposed to be like Melee, or be diffferent. If it IS supposed to be like Melee, because AFAIK DI works like Melee, it doesn't make sense for this to be different.

I don't know whether shield asdi is in pm, but in melee there is shield sdi and shield asdi just like there is sdi and asdi. In melee too if you sdi while in shield hitlag, the effect will be much greater than just shield asdi.

They share a lot of the same mechanics, and a lot of tech that works in Melee also works in PM. They are similar whether you like it or not. No one is saying they are exactly the same thing, calm down.
