Doormaster
Smash Rookie
If you get the reference, you're a cool cat.
Anyway, my name around here is Doormaster (no relation to existing users Swagmaster and Daymaster). I'm a tall, modest, and generally sincere person. I'm currently enrolled in senior secondary school somewhere in Canada, having one of the best school years I have ever had. Believe it or not, I've been lurking these forums for well over a year now; it's only now that I've gotten around to creating an account. As such, I've become acquainted with some of you great people. I'm very glad I did though, as there are lots of users I would love to connect with (e.g. FallenHero, LeifEricksson, Frizz, etc). Throughout my time as a long-time lurker, I have seen many people come and go and new people arrive with fresh vigor, including me.
On another note, I am also quite a long-time lurker of the Smash series, too. Let me elaborate. I first got into Smash at the time that Melee players would call "the Dark Ages", a time where Brawl was the more popular Smash game and Melee was struggling to grab a foothold in the Fighting Game Community, or FGC. This means that I didn't get into the franchise from the Samox documentary, rather a naïve interest in the Virtual Console version of Smash 64. Going from the description alone (I wasn't even aware of Brawl at the time), my developing mind decided it was high time to purchase and download the game. I then proceeded to complete 1P Game with Samus. Several continues later, my goal was fulfilled and I unlocked Jigglypuff. You could say the rest is history; I went on to dabble in all the other Smash games (excluding SSB43DS and PM) for many years until presently, where I mainly play SSB64 and sometimes Brawl.
In both Smash 64 and Brawl, I solo main Rat (Pikachu) and Mr. Game and Watch, respectively. I play these characters since they are both viable in competitive play, and I can relate to them to some extent. Instead of going for easily DI-able Uair chains, I prefer to play Rat in an efficient playstyle, mostly going for edgeguard opportunities and mastering little quirks of its design, similar to the way the top Japanese player Wario plays. Rat is also loved by the general gaming fanbase, which I think relates to me and my current situation in real life.
I have joined Smashboards mainly as a way to communicate with my fellow users, some of them I mentioned earlier. In addition, one of the guys from my local Smash scene is on this site, and I'll be sure to PM him to let me into the Facebook group. I am well aware of the fact that a majority of the community has flocked and taken their discussions to Facebook, Discord and to a lesser extent, Reddit. However, I know I'll enjoy my stay here and I can't wait to get started in the community.
As for my life outside of Smash, my big thing that I really love doing is Karate, which I have been doing for over ten years. In terms of big news, I was recently awarded my Shodan belt (it has my name on it in Japanese) and I was also named Student of the Year for 2016. You more than likely have no idea how big of an honour this is for me. Getting these awards show that I have put in the time and effort to become the best Budo-ka (martial arts practitioner) I can be. Maybe I can accomplish a similar triumph in Smash, who knows? Anyhow, like I mentioned earlier, I am enjoying school and am currently on winter break. I already can't wait to go back. Everyone at my school is so kind and welcoming, they all seem to like me, which is good. When the holidays are over and I'm back at school, me and the school counselor gained approval from the principal to set up an NES Classic in one of the classrooms. I just hope the new shipments will be in by the time we put the finishing touches on the plan, so the school doesn't have to pay a fortune to get the darn thing.
In terms of other video games I enjoy, I am a big fan of the racing and fighting game genres. Because of the fact that I go through "phases" with my interests, my favourite franchises tend to fluctuate. Right now, though, my favourite in each genre is Crazy Taxi for racing games and Tekken for fighting games. Similarly, there's something about these two genres that makes me love them, that something being that I find them fun. In fact, the whole reason I play video games in the first place is to escape from reality (if need be) but mainly to have fun. If a game isn't fun for me or I'm simply not playing it very well on that particular day, I'll stop playing it and do something else worthwhile with my time, simple as that.
Well, that just about concludes my ramblings for now. I have but a few requests though: first, can you members of the Welcoming Committee please say something different for your posts? For example, instead of Cyndane posting the usual "Welcome to Smashboards!" post, or Flight saying "Welcome to the boards!" perhaps you people could mix it up a bit and say something to vary from the usual fare? I don't mean to come off as a Special Snowflake, it's simply the fact that I want to be treated properly and not someone who is merely another user joining the boards. Next, can you good people wish me a happy birthday? (Yes, I did make sure to join Smashboards on my actual birthday.) If so, that would be very nice of you.

Tl;dr: A new user has joined the boards. He's pretty cool, you should check him out.
