A minor point about "shoe ins"

There is no such thing as a "shoe in".

The proper phrase is "shoo-in", and refers to the process of shooing a person inside, usually a building of some sort. "Go on! Get in out of the rain, Billy! Shoo! Shoo!" In this case, it would refer to the popular characters being shooed into Brawl because of their appeal.

Once again, it is "shoo-in", not "shoe in".

P.S. Honestly, what on earth is a "shoe in"?

And you made a whole topic to tell us this?

P.S: You're also late.

Ummm I hate to tell you but... this is the Internet. Grammar and the like, do not apply here.

Most people, including myself, say Shoe-In because it just makes a simple reference to "Having a foot (shoe) in the door"

and by the end of the day, quite frankly, I couldn't care less if I said it wrong as long as I got my point across.

As Card says, shoe-in is short for "having a shoe in the door."

Shoe-in is a phrase in real life too, not just the internets.

"Shoe in" means that they've got one foot in the door and thus the door cannot be closed on them; in other words that they're "literally already in". Perhaps you should look harder at colloquialisms in English? :/

Confusing words and phrases is popular on the internet. For example, it seems no one knows the difference between leak, rumor, speculation, and confirmed fact.

Leak: A confirmed fact that was released unintentionally (in other words, Nintendo did not intend for the information to come out). It must have 100% unrefutable support to back it up.

Rumor: Potentially false information that typically derives from a mixture of speculation and confirmed facts. Rumors typically have some information to back them up (but not to the point of being 100% undeniably proven), however they can come from anywhere.

Speculation: Ideas created based on confirmed facts. These are educated guesses that are by no means considered to be fact. Many people sometimes misunderstand the person presenting the speculation and often accept these as rumors or confirmed facts (despite lack of supporting evidence).

Confirmed Fact: Any information released by Nintendo is confirmed fact (other than release dates :ohwell:). Anything on the official dojo is fact. Any information that comes from a reputable source that has some sort of known connection with Nintendo (Famitsu, WHobby, etc.) is fact. Confirmed facts are information that is 100% true and has been proven through trustworthy sources (these sources must have a known, publicized connection to Nintendo; prophets who have leaked info in the past don't count... their information should never be considered 100% authentic; at best, they should be considered 99% authentic, aka not fact). If it is not some sort of an official business (I'm looking at you, prophets), then it most likely does not have the necesary background for its info to be considered fact.

Google Searches:
"Shoe-in" - ~1,560,000 results

"Shoo-in" - ~227,000 results

Then again, it's hard to say, because Google totally won't take "shoe-in" as a single word, although there are plenty of results that use this "incorrect" spelling. Of course, oed.com doesn't even have an entry for the former, so you at least agree with most prescriptivists.

Either way, arguing about spelling is pretty petty, don't you think?

M2 should be a shoo in.

But according to "leaked sources" he's cut.

Maybe that makes him a SHOE IN.
I take it you didn't read my post... the prophets are considered rumors, not leaks. Although maybe I'm misunderstanding you. Were the quotation marks meant to point out that you were using the term leak lightly?
