A Little More Emphasis on Physical Combat?

Mostly because I've played a lot of traditional fighters, I kinda like just simple and not-so-simple punches and kicks in brawlers. Special moves and abilities are great and all, but sometime I think a simple hook or uppercut is just as nice to see, and sometimes, more satisfying, which is why a part of me was disappointed that Mega Man doesn't do more simple close range blows. A punch or kick simply works.

They get to the point and get the job done... well, most of the time.

And besides, this is a brawler, right?

I just hope I can see a little more punching and kicking... and slapping... and scratching... and karate chops, and arm thrusts, and headbutts, and you get the idea.

The reason we don't have a lot of characters with typical fighting moves like the ones you described is because hardly any of them do those in their respective series.

Sounds to me like you're craving some Little Mac. He'd be the perfect "brawler" for you with what you described that you're looking for.

Or CF, the dude carries a gun that he /never/ uses.

They should make an F-Zero based action/bounty hunting game where you play as Falcon ripping a-holes to shreds. He is a bounty hunter after all, why can't we bounty hunt?
I still don't see why another F-Zero hasn't been made yet Its not like it wouldn't fit in with all the other next gen games. For crying out lout it's a freakin unique racing game that takes place in the future. Don't understand.

Nintendo is too busy playing it safe. I guess in an era where most games are dominated by First Person Shooters and Sandboxes it becomes difficult to take more risks than necessary; it's not the 1990's any more. Or, I could just be talking out of my ass and Nintendo could just as easily be deemed as lazy.

Little Mac, Captain Falcon and Donkey Kong would like a word with you.

However, I will say there is indeed something satisfying when you opt to destroy your opponent with a well-timed punch.

I think the difference is that there is much more mobility in the smash games than there are in the more traditional fighters. If we were to shrink the stages where double jumps weren't possible and changed the way you defeated an opponent from being knocked off the stage to hit points, then you would probably see a lot more CQC.

Mario Kart is siphoning off all of F-Zero's life, so to speak.
You see, any new idea Nintendo gets for a racing game is going to go to Mario Kart because it's safer, leaving F-Zero high and dry. Not to mention, GX's difficulty and incoherent story kinda left the series off on an bad note despite its high polish.
I think the best direction Nintendo could take F-Zero is to really emphasize the uniqueness of each racer, perhaps dividing them into classes like drag, drift, hybrid, etc. Or they could revisit the ancient F-Zero Maximum Velocity side of the game and bring in Kent Akechi as the new Captain Falcon. Or both.
OR, Nintendo could really give the series a massive boost(no pun intended) by bringing in Samus Aran and Fox McCloud as playable racers. They'd fit right in.
...
But I digress. This is a thread about punches and kicks in Smash. I like what Project M did with Lucario's physical attacks. It would be interesting to see characters with combo mechanics like that in Smash 4.

I think Smash could expand more on its hand to hand combat concepts and create some character specific unique combos. For Example: They could expand on double inputmoves like Link's double F-smash or Snakes double F-tilt, give Fox a double U-tilt, the first hir is the normal high kick and the second hit could be 2 rising kicks that send him in the air similar to Chun-Li's Tenshou Kyaku in Street Fighter, while airbord he will be able to do any other action like a descending aerial if the opponent blocks, or jump into Fair if the kicks connect. So here is any easy combo, Dair>U-tilt, Second hit U-tilt>Double Jump> Fair. Even Link's Dair spike can create some new combos. AT low percents on the ground he could SH Dair>Dair>Whatever, even Dair>Dair>First hit Bair>Utilt. Smash just has so many possibilities,

I like this idea, though I'm not sure Fox would need it. I thought Roy would definitely need it for Project M, where he could cancel his jab with one of his tilts since he doesn't have Marth's double swipe. But they've already decided to buff him in other ways, so I don't know if that would still be a good idea for him.

WTF, this aint Tekken.
Implying that's exclusive to Tekken.

If anything, we have yet to have a character that has a fighting style that resembles a real life one, and the closest exception to that is Lucario. I guess you could arguably toss in Diddy too.

Hmm, where was I going with this thread? ...oh, right.

One of the reasons I love playing as Koopa Daimyo(King Bowser Koopa) is because he is simply a straightforward beast. He has his fire breath and spinning, but slashing the opponent is something I find simply satisfying and very effective. He's definitely fit for being a bruiser-type, along with Donkey Kong and P:M Wario. And honestly, You'll see more straightforward moves in tournament matches than the more familiar ones(like Captain Falcon's Knee Smash)

I don't know what else to say, really. I just like the looks to the basic, physical moves, especially the Smash Attacks.
