I'm starting to develop my team and i'm having trouble deciding on who to use for my lead poke. Any suggestions?

There are different kinds of leads that work equally well. Baton passing, for example, is an extremely potent way to kick off the match and potentially set up a sweep. A prime example of this would be the standard starting Jolteon (TBolt/Sub/HP[Ice]/BatonPass). Jolteon forces switches like no other, and substituting on that switch provides an opportunity to scout for their Pokemon as well as baton pass to a potential counter with a sub up to their counter for Jolteon. Ninjask, standard EspyJump, Celebi, and a few others fit here. By the way, I wouldn't start with BPer like Scizor or Vaporeon before obtaining better knowledge of their team.

Another starter choice you can utilize are choice itemed Pokemon. These are meant to hit something hard if they can, run if they can't. Simple concept. Some people like to open with things like Aerodactyl, CBTtar, CBGross, CSMedicham, Choice anything Gengar, CSpecsYanmega, etc. Note: Do not ever lead with Dugtrio or Weavile. They're revenge killers for a reason and are supposed to remain unknown until the time comes.

Weather condition inducers are also extremely common starters, and Stealth Rockers are as well. Hippowdon serves as both. Swampert, Donphan, Bronzong are also often used to SR. Oh and same goes with Spikers. Forretress and Cloyster are sometimes seen I guess...

Other very popular leads are Gyarados, Breloom, Tyraniboah, and uhh I might edit this post if I think of more. Oh and uh... Some people use certain Pokemon to lead just to counter other popular leads. For example, in ADV, Milotic and Vaporeon/Slowbro leads weren't such a rare sight due to the extraordinary amount of Salamence/Metagross leads. I haven't seen much of these in DP yet, but I can't see why they can't work.

Ninjask @ Leftovers
Speed Boost
Jolly
EVs: 176 HP / 252 Atk / 80 Spd
-Substitute
-Swords Dance
-Baton Pass
-X-Scissors / Aerial Ace

Standard Baton Passer to Physical Sweepers. Because it leads, it doesn't have to worry about Stealth Rock. Substitute to stall and get Speed Boosts, while Leftovers lets you use Substitute more. Swords Dance when you get the chance to. Then, when you think you've had enough Speed Boosts and Swords Dances, pass to a Physical Sweeper. If you're lucky, you'll still have your Sub up. X-Scissors / Aerial Ace get STAB and go off Ninjask's decent 90 base Attack. X-Scissors can be used to attack Psychics / Darks and prevent Alakazam, Azelf, and Weavile from sweeping your team. Aerial Ace KOs Heracross, the occasional Breloom, and the not-so-often-seen Grass type.

Nobody uses Ninjask for this, but it can pass Speed Boosts and Subs to Special Sweepers.
====================
Jolteon @ Leftovers
Volt Absorb
Timid
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpAtk / 252 Spd
-Substitute
-Baton Pass
-HP Grass / HP Ice
-Thunderbolt / Charge Beam

SubPasser. Pass a Sub so the Pokemon coming in won't be hurt, or possibly KOed, by the opponent's attack. You can either pass Charge Beam boosts, or do more damage with Thunderbolt. HP Ice is for the Dragons and Flyers, while HP Grass hits Swampert and the occasional Rock type.
====================
Crobat @ Leftovers
Inner Focus
Jolly
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spd OR 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
-Hypnosis
-Mean Look
-Cross Poison / Aerial Ace
-U-Turn

Hypnosis things, Mean Look them, then U-Turn to a Pokemon that can take care of the trapped Pokemon.

Stay tuned for more.

Until wii meet again,

Wii4Mii's ideas work great. Here are some of mine...

Swampert @ Chesto Berry
Impish/Torrent
EV's: 252 Hp/252 Def/6 Atk
-Stealth Rock
-Rest
-Earthquake
-Roar
---Stealth Rock to start off. Start EQ'ing Pokemon. Roar any Flying types...Rest when low on health; Chesto Berry snaps in back in for some more battling.

Umbreon @ Leftovers
Bold/Synchronize
EV's: 252 Hp/149 Sp. Def/109 Def
-Moonlight
-Mean Look
-Toxic
-Baton Pass
---Mean Look->Toxic to insure toxication; then Baton Pass to a sweeper who can take care of the job.

First of all, that Swampert was hacked:chuckle:, and if it's going for long-term survival, it should have Def and SpDef EVs along with HP...

The Umbreon will get pwned by a Gyarados w/Taunt...A good bit of people lead with Gyarados w/Taunt just because of Baton Passers...

Nyuck nyuck nyuck nyuck nyuck...:chuckle:

A Bronzong lead is good, too. Why : it's a Steel type, which means it practically resists everything, its only two weakness will be nulled depending on its ability, and it has a decent movepool to boot!

I really like a lot of the ideas here. I've been thinking of amyfull team for a while now so i'll have it up probably tomorrow. I like the baton passing idea with Ninjask and such, but would Taunt just ruin your day?
