Back in 2009, I travelled to the US for the first time, to attend one of the most hyped tournament in the history of the Smash Bros community. Additionally, I travelled around California with 3 fellow French players, seeing great places, and most important, meeting many great people, not only from California, but also Australia, Mexico, Canada, and many other countries.
I knew for a long time that this summer, I would be travelling to California once again. Actually, as soon as Genesis 2 was announced, I was almost sure to attend the tournament and spend some time in the US. I got the confirmation about one month before my departure : I would leave Paris on the 9th in the morning, and land in Los Angeles in the afternoon. Then I would leave from San Diego on the 22nd in the morning, and arrive in Paris one day later.
As my trip drews closer, I got a clearer idea of what I would do over there, and it was only getting better : among others, it would included beach parties, but also surf lessons given by amazing smash player from San Diego, some hiking in national parks. Even better, I learned that my friend Alexis (aka Qlex in the smash community) would travel with me for a significant part of the trip.

In this blog, I will try to relate, hopefully on a day-to-day basis.

I don’t really know what to expect regarding the purpose of this blog. Will it be to relate an interesting experience ? Well, it could, but safe for me, this trip isn’t that extraordinary. Will I keep it to give news to my family and friends during my stay ? There are better ways to do that. Giving an hindsight of a culture and a country, seen by someone from the other stide of the world, with a different cultural background ? I wouldn’t be so pretentious.
I don’t know. I will try to update it regularly and see where it goes. At the very least, it will be a good writing exercise for me, and a way to have a trace of this vacation in a place other than my memory.

I hope you’ll have fun reading it.
