A Freezeless Game: What's the most stable method?

As a longtime player going back to Brawl+, I've come to accept that intermittent freezes may just be a part of life. Running a clean install of 3.5 (no additional modifications on my part) VIA USB loader, I've still managed to encounter random freezes. Not constant, mind you, but there nonetheless. I even switched to a different SD card and completely different Wii console and eventually had the same result.
Most recently, I've opted to use a physical copy of Brawl and load PM VIA Gecko (as Priiloader doesn't seem to like the official launcher), and still run into random freezing (although I will say that it was mid match in All Star Vs, though not during any sort of character switch).

I realize that with so many variables to consider (particularly if one wanted to eventually incorporate CBliss, ASL, or Stage Expansions), there may always be the chance of freezes, but it seems as though the game must work fairly freezelessly for the majority. With this in mind, I'd like to ask the folks in the community, specifically those that may've been plagued by random freezes at one time or another, have you found a particular loading method to be more stable than another, be it hackless, GECKO, Riivo, USB (with or without M ISO)? I'd really like to be able to play a clean M install without having to worry about a freeze every few matches. Thanks in advance.

The way I do it is to build a WBFS, but I build it myself using WIT, instead of using any of the ISO builder tools on the internet (which always patch the codeset into main.dol, which I don't want). So the WBFS contains the PM files, but not the codeset, which I put on the SD card. I also change the game's ID6, so I can have vBrawl on my hard drive as well. I use USB Loader GX for loading, and set Ocarina hooktype to AXNextFrame, which I've found to be most reliable for Brawl modding (this is also possible in Gecko OS, but not sure if it's an option in the official launcher). I load to the Homebrew Channel via BootMii, and load USB Loader GX from there. My SD card is a standard blue 2 GB Sandisk card, which I've had for some 4 years now and never needed to re-format or defragment. This set-up has always worked for me, and the only freezes I've had are from experimenting with codes and PSAs (in other words, not the random freezing you seem to be experiencing).
