A Different Approach to "Adventure" Mode

So by now, most of you have read that Sakurai intends not to include a mode that's comparable to Subspace Emissary. Whether or not he intends to include any sort of "Adventure" mode at all is anyone's guess.

Now these days I try not to come up with too many of my own ideas, because I know with a fair amount of certainty that they won't come true. So I'll try to keep this idea as general as possible to allow our imaginations to run free.

I was thinking that perhaps a better way bringing the various franchises to life in a sort of "campaign" mode would be to focus less on level design and more on battle design. In doing so, perhaps they can offer a more condensed experience while still paying homage to the different worlds of each franchise. I dunno about you guys, but the parts I loved best from SSE were the parts that featured actual canonical enemies from the actual franchises. Which was basically... just the Mario enemies, if I recall correctly.

But imagine a mode where it's not a contrived platformer with enemies strewn about (because the platforming in past adventure modes left much to be desired), but instead a mode that focuses on various battles against both enemy entities (such as Goombas, waddle doos, tektites, metools, etc.), boss entities, and of course, other player characters. Now that wouldn't necessarily mean that you don't have to travel a great distance like in past modes, but the emphasis would be on fights, not on navigating from point A to point B.

This could allow the levels themselves to be more simplistic, and would allow them to put more thought into how you fight these entities, rather than how you navigate around them. Time that would have gone into making those boring platforming stages could instead go toward pulling as many enemies from the actual franchises as possible.

Not only would this be beneficial in creating a more enjoyable Adventure experience, but those enemy assets could be used in creating other bonus modes for when people are looking for a little more than regular old free-for-all matches.

It's a bit of a general principle, I know. But I know I would personally rather have a mode that basically gives you a crash course on each franchise in the form of some really fun battles against waves of enemies in levels that actually facilitate Smash's style of fighting.

Personally, I liked SSE because it wasen't like the Adventure mode in Melee. Mostly because didn't need to play it 30+ times with similar results. Combine with the fact that it had a cool story and had a good platforming experience made it fun. I think that this new adventure mode should be a good balance between the fighting and the platforming. The way you put it seems to be that you want the older mode back (but not entirely) and have it more focused on the fighting aspect. Besides, isn't that what classic mode is for? As such, why not have the stages support each fight instead of being pushed aside? I do agree with the idea of the enemies though.

But then again, I might be wrong though. just started here anyway

I don't care what they do, I just want some type of story with cool butt cutscenes.

I think a big part of the reason SSE failed is that it tried to mimic a sidescrolling platformer in some ways but didn't change things enough. Platformers should be somewhat fast paced. Characters should move faster, fall faster...basing the levels more closely on franchises instead of generic enemies and locations would be a good start, but the physics of a good fighting game and the physics of a good platformer are not the same.

(cool cutscenes would be great, obviously. could be a great way to re-introduce, say, Takamaru's story? I liked some of SSE's team-up elements, too. ZSS and Pikachu, for instance, were kind of a brilliant match)
