Literally. My disc is now dead. I tried playing it recently and it spit out an error message at me after I tried to start a round. I looked at it- there's moderate scratches on the edge of the disc, and a few others elsewhere.
I blame by little brother. He's always leaving crap out like that, and it was a tragedy just waiting to happen.
So I tried everything to fix it. The old breathe on it and wipe off, gently rinsing it with water, even toothpaste. Nothing made it better, though it didn't make it worse.
Then I tried polishing it with Brasso after seeing countless internet recommendations of it. We polished it for a bit once, tried it. No improvement. Then I set to work on getting rid of those scratches, seriously. I buffed it for ages, being careful not to go too deep.
Tried it again, since the scratches had faded... and now it won't even recognize the disc. So my SSBB has gone bye-bye. ;-;
Greeeeaaaat. And only two months before I was planning on entering a tourney, the one at A&G Ohio. I'm gonna have to buy a new copy, but this is gonna be a pain, since I'm dedicated to having money to buy Soul Silver within a week of release, and I need to buy the ticket for A&G soon, along with the extra $10 for the tourney. I've got about $50 for Gamestop, and $40 otherwise. Not enough to buy a friggin' Wii game. My brother better be prepared to pitch in a lot. He broke it as far as I'm concerned, so yeah.
Sorry, had to vent. /rant.
Is Brawl still going for $50 nowadays, or is it less at Gamestop (used is possible)? Or more, even?

Your problem (likely) isn't with your brawl disk. Your Wii probably has an old laser, meaning that it will have trouble reading dual-layered disks. Like brawl.

I had this problem before, with the same symptoms as yours (stops reading disk upon entering match), and cleaning my laser fixed everything up.

There's kits you can buy on the net for this, they're relatively inexpensive, irc.

GO to a friend's house to smash if you don't have any freinds to smash with well how are you going to get any better? Also game game does your brother play? the wii's best game is brawl(that's a wii game) and a few amount of people think it isn't that amazing.

I doubt it's my Wii. I've had the game since about a week after it was released, no issues until recently. I thought of this, tried it on my friend's newer Wii, same results. :/
And those friends have Brawl; it's just my luck that they recently lost it. They're worse than my little brother about leaving that stuff around.
Alex (bro) likes Brawl (though not as much as me .-. ). He wouldn't break it on purpose.
I own Melee and Smash 64 too, actually... but it's not the same without my Lucario. ;-; And I'm no good at competitive Melee, IMO.

Ohhhh, sorry. xD He plays The Conduit, Metroid Prime 3, and Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 out of what he's currently playing heavily, and various other games randomly, including Brawl. I blame him because he'll take the game out of the Wii, because I had played it sometime recently, and not put it away like someone's supposed to when they switch the games here. e-e;
