Smash Wii U A Bloody Good Question That I Require Assistance With

Now I've gotten your attention with a somewhat cheeky, ambiguous title, I ask the following: Who do you think I should play upon the date I first launch Smash 4. Now I realise this question must have been asked a thousand times but I am no Smash rookie, even though the little title under my name believes me to be. I have played enough smash to perform combos confidently, become fairly tech-consistent, L-Cancel a great deal of the time (I don't even know if that's in this game) and have enough versatility to play almost any character. My main in Project M, my current Smash Of Choice, is Snake. I realise Snake does not make an appearance in this flashy, fancy Wii U version of Smash so I obviously can't play him. I second Samus but only for the ice mode because fancy particle effects are the reason I don't get up in the morning and trot off the edge of a multi-story car park, and I also realise Samus does not have an Ice mode in the normal game. So that's buggered as well. I'm left with Mario is another second and I'd be fine with playing with him if I was a boring sod who decided that I'm going to continue playing a character that I'm only half interested in for the rest of eternity. I also played Wolf a whole sodding lot but he's not in Smash 4 either.

I suppose what it all boils down to is: I'm not terrible at the game but everyone I enjoy playing is either vastly different, not featured or just appears as fun as getting a spike driven down your nostril by a yodelling nun with a case of facial leprosy, so who do you reckon would be a fine main for a man who is a fan of projectile initiation/zoning but also loves a good combo?

UPDATE
Holy **** this game is different i'm so bad.
Duck Hunt is my favourite thus far.

Well There's villager, Duck hunt, Samus, link and toon link.
I would recommend samus as a starter because you have overall good experience with her as a character. In smash 4 she also have pretty good combos.
I would put villager next because he has nice edge guarding and Zoning propertys his style of play can force your opponent to be paitant with you.
Same applies to duck hunk except that he has a bit more stage control with his can and seems similar to snake imo but he has a hard time killing.
Link and Toon link both have good combos, setups and kill confirms. I honestly don't know much about link or toon link because I don't play them much.

Duck "Hunk" indeed, hot damn he's an attractive dog.
Ahem anyway, cheers for the info. I've looked into most of the characters and I have taken interest in the Links and Duck Hunt though I hadn't given much thought to villager or continuing to play Samus. Villager seemed a little too- I don't know - different to what I had ever played and Samus just seems to be so much less effective in this version of the game.

I have had a little experience with Toon Link however and his bomb game is so good. It's essentially like playing Noughts and Crosses just wham your stuff in random locations and it works perfectly for some reason. You throw a bomb upwards and people just magically get sucked into it's blast it's truly a spectacle to behold.

ROB may be a good choice.

* He's Mid-Tier
* Heavy weight
* Has a good but gimpable recovery
* His Gyro is not only a projectile but a very good hassling tool
* Has some decent-ish Combo options, especially with the Gyro

Those are just a few things I can list off the top of my head currently.

I love ROB and I've mained him since Brawl. He can have so many nifty tricks to use to your advantage if you can preform well enough and his Gyro is just so much fun considering all the options it gives you. It's great for edge guarding, pressure, and for mind games.

In fact, he landed #3 in Beefy Smash Doods Video "Top 5 Ledge Traps" due to his Gyro.

I should also mention how much fun it is to snipe people recovering with his Gyro and/or Robo Beam. Seriously, he'd be worth a shot.

Y'know I actually checked ROB out a little and he is pretty cool. It's only two days until I begin Smash on the Wii U, actually, I'm pretty excited to see what's changed.

On another note, I only have an internet connection of around 160 kb/s. Awful, I know, I just have the question of does the game have a series of large updates that I have to download upon whamming the game in for the first time? Further still, does the Wii U itself have a series of ridiculously large updates that I have to download also? I'm just trying to gauge if this is going to be a "ALRIGHT LETS PLAY WOOO" kind of day or a "Well I guess I'll play in like two days or something" kind of day.
