In episode 16 of The Flash, Cisco is invited by his parents to the birthday party of his brother, Dante. Dante was a musical prodigy who played in Carnegie Hall when he was 13 years old. His parents constantly dote on him for this to the point that they failed to realize that he hasn't accomplished anything in his life, musically or academically since and they constantly give him a free ride through life. They also failed to realize that their other son is a genius inventor working at one of the most prestigious labs in the nation and consistently ignored his accomplishments. They failed to realize Cisco's potential and missed his growth entirely for a past memory.
I bring this up because Dante is Melee, and Cisco is WiiU. The Smash community refuse to let Smash 4 grow as a game and are already hoping to see it fail before it even begins. It's a little sad when a new high profile fighting game doesn't get to have it's EVO grand finals on Sunday. But is instead shoehorned somewhere on Saturday alongside other streams. We can't even be bothered to give it its time in the limelight where all eyes have to be on it. But instead we're giving that to its big brother, Melee.
Some common complaints I hear regarding the WiiU is that people don't know how to set the rules. 2 stocks BO3, 3 stocks BO3, customs on/off. And instead of taking time so that conditions can properly be set. It's not like communities raised the number of matches in a set two years after the game launched, oh wait UMVC3 did when they felt matches were too short.
Another propblem I hear is the nature of God tier characters like DIddy Kong was a few months ago. Now I personally, felt anyone in this roster to be too ridiculously strong, some are a bit too weak though. But again instead of letting match ups and counter be found we just immediatly requested a character ban. Again the Marvel community faced a similar problem in their first year. Wesker was slated to be the God tier of the game thanks to him essentially having LV4 X Factor, but since everyone started playing him players found ways to counter Wesker to the point that for a good while Wesker was demoted to B Tier.
Now before I wrap this up, I know you're probably think "Well who are you to talk". I've been a fan of competitive fighting games for more than 5 years. I've watched the communities of Marvel, Street Fighter 4, ArcSys, Namco, and Netherealm games. But in all of those they never let the past version of a game over shine what was being played NOW. 3rd Strike is one of the best fighting games of all time but the SF community isn't abandoning Ultra 4. Marvel 2 fans waited 10 years for a sequel and when it FINALLY came out, they quickly adjusted to it and embraced it since. If all of these other communities can grow with time, why can't we.
