Well, if you are trying get "good" you start from the bottom and work to the top; memorize the basic attacks and how to get to recover to the stage and know how to deal consistant damage. Then fight those around you who are just as good as you, then eventually fight people who are better than you (If you messa on my profile or whatever I cn help you to get better at th game in simple ways if you want :)).

In reguars to Smash Boards itself, do not worry, it's a nice place. If you want to to talk about SSB4 (Sp Smash Brothers 4), click on the forums button located in the upper left corner then click SSB4's forum. If it is a tournament that you want, there are hundreds in the Tournamnet Listings Forum.
You might have more luck finding a tournament for SSB4 and SSBM (Super Smash Brothers Melee AKA Smash 2), since they are the big ones.

In short, it will all come naturally to you once you have hung around for a while, but when I started, I had already known about some of the techniques I would say. I hope this helped you in some way, if you want to know more about anything, just ask me omy profile and I will try to help :).

Well, I can be convinced to play some SSB4, but I ultimately quit playing recently and returned to Brawl, as I believe it is my favorite, but I can still play SSB4 if there is a situation. I stopped because of patches and Bayonetta because I do not play with "Evil" stuff if you will, as she is a Satanic Witch to me. I also quit because Whiner Babies were raving about how Captain Falcon was OP even though he was about mid tier and was nerfed by Nintendo lol but that is just me XD.

If Brawl is your favorite then that's fine

It's actually not as hard as others might think, people just don't know how to get Melee out of their heads, I have beaten Olimars *Third best character in the game*.
It's just basic attacks and racking up damage. People make the mistake of being WAY to agressive as Captain Falcon in Brawl. I would not say that he is a bad character, it's just that higher tiers have projectiles that they spam against him keeping him low. Nobody really mained Captain Falcon seriously in Brawl, because Snake and Meta Knight's meta game became nearly unbeatable in the early days.
https://youtu.be/bTr2Di0NF6g watch this. Listen to what he says about a meta game and low tiers.

have you ever heard of "Bizzaro Flame"? he was a Ganondorf main in SSBM *lower tier character* and I watched own Fox Mains *Fox is top tier in SSBM*
https://youtu.be/zKexjP7lNQQ?t=9s This is an example of how a low tier cn beat a Top Tier.
but on a gneral scale, lower tiers lose to mid-higher and op tiers, so this video demonstrates how good bizzaro flame is.

I suppose I failed to mention I'm a competitive Melee player looking to get started in 4.
