4-gated C-Stick mod?

I like to play using the c-stick for smash inputs and aerials, but I often struggle with the wrong input registering. Playing Greninja, the difference between a back-air and a down-air offstage can (and has) cost me a stock, and I'd like to avoid that in the future.

Are there any mods for the C-stick to switch it from an 8-gate to a 4-gate? And I don't mean a square gate, I mean a mod that would literally only let you input left up right and down.

Also, are modded controllers allowed in tournaments nowadays? If not, I guess I wouldn't want to learn/practice with one, but I thought to ask anyways.

I'm not an electronics guru, but sounds like you'd almost want a cross shaped gate, like a d-pad of sorts. You could probably make a makeshift one out of hard plastic and superglue it over top of the existing gate, but dunno how long it'd last. You also may get stuck on the corners in some way if you tried something like that.

Otherwise, modded controllers are generally allowed, as long as there isn't a turbo button/macro button/any option that would give you an unfair advantage over an opponent without your controller. Things like shoulder spring mods and thumbstick replacements are generally allowed. It's usually up to the TO on how liberal they want to be with modded controllers, though.
