Ever since the release of the Wii U version, I'm starting to see the online for the 3DS version kind of... deteriorating. Conquest mode isn't on any more, For Fun is laggier than ever and now it's impossible to get a 1V1 for Glory match without lag OR delay. Anyone know why? Has Nintendo just sort of.. given up with the 3DS online?

What do you mean...?
I'm trying to say it's too early to tell if they have given up on Conquest mode.
Also laggy or delayed matches doesn't necessarily mean that Nintendo has "given up" , there are a whole bunch of extenuating circumstances that led to your laggy or delayed matches. Also, you've probably played what, 40-50 matches since Smash U has come out? Even if you played 100 matches, you are still one person and there are circumstances, so it doesn't mean Nintendo has gave up on the server.

Is there a conquest ongoing in the Wii U version?

It is sad that there isn't a conquest mode on the 3ds version. I don't have my Wii U set up so I've gone back to the 3ds version for awhile.

Yep, a 3-way between seemingly random (as in no rhyme or reason to the pairings) groups of the newcomers, ending today (the 12th).

There are several hiccups here and there, but the online mode on Smash 3DS isn't too bad. I don't have the Wii U version though, so it's probably better there, but I doubt its release was detrimental to the 3DS online. If anything, it could be that the connected network is acting up.

Dammit I can't believe I missed that. I main 3 of the newcomers in the red team, and Villager on the green team. Why couldn't this have been on the 3DS too? >_<

I wouldn't say that they have given up but more or so, they are giving more servers to the Wii-U version to host all of the people playing online
