Okay, this'll be quick.

If you're wondering why Local Multi-Player has lag, it's most likely the 3DS's fault. This is because, as you may know, Smash 3DS REALLY, like, REALLY pushes the 3DS hardware, not allowing you to open Miiverse or the Internet Browser. While I may be wrong, I'm almost certain that Multi-Player is a bit laggy and stutters because the 3DS isn't really capable of it.

Now, here's the main thing I'd like to say. Nobody needs to really worry about having the game be like this forever, because of the New 3DS. With this, because it's more powerful, it'll be able to handle the game better.

This is pretty random, but I'd just like to bring that up so people aren't disappointing thinking that their dreams of an amazing portable Smash Bros. game are going to be ruined by lag.

by the way I could be totally wrong about this, lol

No game should be ruined because of it's online play! Unless you need online to play it! So i'm fine with it's local and online multiplayer! :)

Well, I would argue that Smash Brothers, being multiplayer and portable, it focused on allowing you to play against other people.

High quality local wireless play is crucial to the success of the game in my opinion, because since Smash 64, the core of the gameplay is playing with friends. I can be a bit more forgiving with online lag because fighting with a person miles away in a game that requires accurate timing is a technical challenge. But playing with the friend next to you with almost-zero lag is imperative to a well made multiplayer experience.

That being said, local multiplayer doesn't lag often for me. When it plays normally, it has virtually no noticeable lag then if I were playing solo. There were times where I could feel a *slight* delay in input, even the rarer of occasion of straight up 5-frames-per-second lag occurred, but the major majority of the matches were lag free. It might now even be the 3DS's fault. Lots of wireless devices out there, could have simply been interference, though I am curious how two New 3DSs operate on both online and local multiplayer.

sometimes it is someone fault because some people damage they 3DS and the wireless lags more , a week ago i played with a friend Local on the Demo and there was tons of lag because his 3DS was VERY damaged , today i played with 2 friends of mine ( 3 players in total ) and we spend like a hour playing , and it did only lag once , and it was because i was a bit far from the other players , take in mind that you can't expect it to be perfectly smothly if you are far from the other players

Yea I just played with my Bros and I was surprised to see slight frame dips every now and then. My one Brother also complained about input delay but I didn't notice any at all (probably because I'm a veteran Brawl Wifi Warrior and have been exposed to much worse)

3DS's have trouble getting along with other wifi signals in general. At my school, when we play Pokemon at gaming club we have to move away from the crowd because the laptops and phones can disconnect players mid-match, but we walk away and everything is fine.

Sorry that I post on a long old thread...

It seems that New 3DS still has this problem some times.
But this is more ridiculous...

My two brothers and me were playing Smash 3DS, for most of the time it goes well, sometimes a lags a bit but we didn't really mind.
Only recently it was too lag and the game just freeze like online battle freeze and said we are disconnected. Our Smash 3DS don't seem to have the problem, but after we rejoin the room it will suddenly disconnected again before the match begins or even before joining the room. Sometimes me and my brother's 3DS can't even find room opened by my other brother at all.

It could be Wifi, or phone interfering, but isn't that just limited to Wifi matches?

I find this fine on the original 3ds, my friend drops out of the match randomly when he plays (he own a 3ds xl, not new) but this better be working fine on the New 3ds, or Nintendo WILL have a bigger problem on their hands.

Keep in mind, if you have your 3DS in power saver mode it will weaken it's own WiFi card to conserve power. This makes it easier for interference to get in the way. I discovered this when playing MH4U and Smash 4 at work with a bunch of people, the people with Power Saver mode on had more issues than those who didn't. I recommend turning that off when playing multiplayer to ensure the 3DS has the least amount of issues.
