3DS for practice, Game Cube controller for Tournaments

I originally had written out reasons to have Smash for the 3DS to be tournament viable again but I've become pessimistic. I thought of it having it's own separate scene and being competitive on handheld in tournaments like Pokemon. The main reason that it will never make it in a public tournament again from what I understand is because of lag and essentially being the same game as Wii U. So the millions more who play this version over the Wii U, if they choose to compete in tournaments will have to treat it as another casual 3DS game and will be forced to watch or play the Wii U version only in tourney. I do not intend on getting a Wii U, so if I ever decide to attend tournaments I plan on just purchasing a GC controller only to compete in tourney and stick to playing/practicing with my 3DS. Anyone else who does not have a Wii U plan on doing the same thing?

I only own 3ds but use either a GC controller or Pro controller at tourneys, recently the GC controller a lot more and I'll say it directly.

It's hard, adaptation requires dedication but you can certainly learn to keep your skill level relatively the same between both, It is also character dependent as far as I can tell. Jigglypuff is certainly a lot better with GC controller thanks to C stick but Kirby for example can be hard to use exactly the same way if you are used to one controller a bit over the other.

Find whatever suits you, if you have a friend that lives close and owns the WiiU version go play with them a lot with your GC controller, etc etc.

I'll probably stick to the Pro Controller if I ever go to tourneys. It has almost the same exact layout as the 3DS.

Yeah I've thought of using a pro controller but most tournaments are against wireless controllers.

Do try to get some use in with the GC controller, even if only in other Smash games. Been playing with both the 3DS and GC controllers since both versions came out, and while I vastly prefer the GC controller, it still takes a fair while to be wholly adapted to it. Not as much, I would think, as other controllers could be, though, as it's pretty damn near perfect for Smash.

Wait what I was planning on getting a pro controller for local wii u tourneys in the future since I'm limited to 3ds but they are against pro controllers

Yeah, I also had that idea OP. It's not like there are any gameplay differences between versions.
