If you look at the top of the screenshot, there are only 6 circles, and the fifth circle is highlighted in order to indicate that Stage 5 has been completed. The last circle is darkened. Could this all mean that 3DS Classic Mode has 6 stages?

Also, I wonder if Training Mode and Event Mode are returning on the 3DS...

It's probably longer or shorter depending on the intensity.
Training and Event will more than likely both be back, also. Training is almost necessary for learning character combos, and Events should be apart of the "Challenges" section on the menu.

I think it shows what level you are going to next and after you complete that level a new circle will come up

I actually hope it's shorter. The split paths would make it diverse enough and the length would be better for playing on the go, which I intend to do a lot of.

I'm sure it just keeps going as you go along. That last circle doesn't look very "Final Stage"-y.

...So that Kritter trophy though. Full of sex.

Perhaps Classic Mode will be a bit shorter than previous incarnations... I think that 8-10 stages would be fine for playing in the go...

It's either 6 stages, or stages dependant on difficulty. Perhaps Master Hand/Crazy Hand are tacked on after that, but I don't think it'll be doing any expanding.

Oh thanks... Well, 6 stages for 40+ characters... That somehow compensates...

Well i mean at least it will be different every time with the paths and everything plus a difficulty meter i think this classic mode is going to be fine.

IMO 6 stages + Master Hand sounds like a perfect length for a quick bit of gameplay when I have nothing else to do. I hope that there's an option to change the number of stages in though, although something like that might only be in the Wii U version.

6 looks about right to me (or 6 + Master Hand if that's how it would go) especially with the larger cast we're having and it seems about short enough for that one quick bus ride and all.

Although I could see the Wii U version getting more stages though.

Or like others said, it could be an intensity type thing.... Or the bonus stages aren't counted on, especially since Target Smash doesn't seem to be included this time on the 3DS version (Unless Target Blast or some other bonus game mode replaces it....)

Considering how big this game's roster will likely be, shortening the amount of stages would at least speed up the process of building your fighter trophy collection.

I don't see that as a bad thing. It is a handheld game, even with sleep mode, you should be able to play it in short bursts.

Classic Mode was always a tedious chore to me, so I'm glad they are shortening it (if that really IS the case) as well as giving it the branching path system and better prizes. It's also more fitting for a handheld game.

I think I'm glad it's shorter. I mean if you want to play more of it you can just load it up again.

Classic Mode with 6 stages is fine on the go. On the Wii U, I expect 10+ stages.

The shorter Classic Mode is, the shorter it takes to unlock characters and other goodies without using V.S. Mode.

I love the "branching paths" they've added for Classic Mode. Assuming that the choices will change, it'll bring some variety to each run instead of following a set formula every time (ex. Brawl: Stage 1 - Zelda, Stage 2 - DK/Yoshi). So I don't mind having 6 stages for CM.

All I could hope for are the bonuses they gave after each battle like in 64 and Melee, to return.

I think you're spot on.

If you compare Mario 3D land with Mario 3D world, you can clearly tell that 3D Land was designed for the short burst gameplay ideal for handheld systems.

I personally would've liked it to be a tiny bit longer, like 8 stages, but 6 is fine. Seeing how there are branching paths, making a lot choices and having many different possibilities would be fun!

Having 6 stages does make stuff easier to unlock like others said.
I do like the idea of it getting longer or shorter depending on the intensity.

The bad thing it's for people who doesn't play the 3DS outside of home, like me
But anyway, if its going to be random it's a good number for me.

I don't either and I don't see how a shorter classic mode is a bad thing. Like the user @ KaZe_DaRKWIND KaZe_DaRKWIND said:

I'm actually quite okay with this because first off, I'm already used to this sort of thing cause most fighting games have about 6 to 7 fights in arcade mode anyway, and second it'd make unlocking characters faster.
