Smash Wii U 3DS as a controller online?

Is it true you can't use a 3DS as a controller online?

It's just I want to main the Wii U Pro Controller, but I don't have the money yet, and if I don't like the GamePad I wanna have the backup of using the 3DS as I love the controls, but I heard you can't use it as a controller in For Glory and the like.

Extra question - how does the GamePad feel for play? Is it just as good as the Pro? How does it compare?

I'll find some time and try it out if no one else does. I wasn't able to score a gc adapter so the 2ds is my go-to controller, especially after laying waste to multiple gc-controller users at a launch party

given the 3DS version is right there to go online with, it sounds... kind of silly to play online on the Wii U with a 3DS as a controller... just my two cents.

i don't have the console, though, let alone the game... so i can't really answer the other question

I was doing this yesterday, my friends were doing a 1v1 so instead of watching them I played Smash 3DS. You calling me silly?

Also, to answer the OP, no, you cannot use the 3DS online. I used my 3DS yesterday on the Wii U version, and the only things that can be done are Smash, 8-Player Smash, and Special Smash with the 3DS connected.

That's too bad maybe an update will resolve this.

Most smashers on here don't seem to value online play as much as local tournaments anyway, so if you really want "the glory", you can use the 3ds at most venues.

if you're gonna main pro, use the gamepad until you get it. it feels the exact same, and let me get used to it before i got my pro.
