It is now really hard to edgeguard effectively, i personally choose between two options when i knock my opponents offstage :
1/ The opponent is at low percentage. I try to rack up some damages with blaster while staying safe. Or if the recovery is readable i can try to cover the edge with a Nair but i won't try to kill.
2/ The opponent is at kill percentage. I try to fish for a Bair to kill when he is below/in front of me (Nair can works but is way less effective) or a Uair if he is above and cannot spike me.

In fact against moste of the cast i don't risk myself outside the stage and just laser for a future Usmash(sad yeah), the only exceptions are characters that i can gimp (diddy and his barrels) or just the ones who have a poor recovery that i can Bair safely enough.

Apparently there is some way to spike with Fair but the way to do it constantly is not sure (without cancelling the last hit with the fastfall i mean). If there some way to easily do it each time it could be helpful.

Your use of dair in Melee can be wise, but I'm more-so surprised how you're not complaining about the removal of shine spike. In Sm4sh, almost everyone has a free recovery (aside from Little Mac) and there's no edgehogging, so I personally see no reason to not go out for the kill. If you stay on stage and play safe, the player will most likely take ledge, and do a normal getup which is really hard to punish. I'd rather take my chances offstage. If they're trying to recover high, RAR bair or an up-air works wonders. If they're going for ledge I'll try to stick out a nair or a bair to clip them. If I'm feeling particularly confident, I'll even fair my opponent offstage. One time I was fighting a really good Falcon and gimped him with an offstage, fast-fallen fair. Granted, he narrowly hit the blast zone before me, but it was still epic.

If you have custom moves, the charge laser or wolf flash are also good options. The charge laser can force them to recover high/low. Also I've been able to combo down-throw to Wolf Flash and get the meteor hitbox.

I have found that a well timed down smash will gimp most characters. But you are playing with fire as if you miss it, you will likely be punished hard for it. But its possible to push characters outside of recovery range with this move. I can usually kill at about 50% on most characters using this. (Marth, Mac, Mario, Falcon, etc) with this tactic. Really the only ones I cannot kill at a low percent with down smash are characters with crazy recovery like Pac man and villager. Plus, this only works if they come at the ledge from below or from the side. If they come from above, I usually Nair them into a position where I can hit this.

Use B-air offstage. Learn the timing, it's now a KO move and probably the best option offstage once you get the timing down.

Shining the opponent really only works if you shine them towards the side of the stage: if your opponent misses the tech, they'll plunge to their doom. If they don't, you can jump out of shine and B-air or U-air them.

The F-air spike is ok, but I much prefer it for combos. Hard to get it reliably offstage without putting yourself at risk.

Remember that if an opponent jumps off the ledge and grabs it again (like Wii Fit Trainer heading soccer balls from the ledge and re-grabbing), you can D-smash them for free since there's no ledge invincibility.

EDIT: Also, edgeguarding onstage isn't half bad of an option either. You can sit near the ledge with your shield up and punish according to what your opponent does:
- Jump off the ledge: U-air, N-air or B-air
- Roll behind you: Grab behind, F-smash or running U-smash
- Ledge attack: punish out of shield
- Normal ledge getup: grab or U-smash punish (tricky to do it since ledge getups are harder to punish now, but do-able)
- Jump onstage with an aerial: depends on the character, but punishing out of shield still works well.

Run off nair -> double jump Nair.

This has been my bnb and been working well. Sometimes I go man mode and rar/ledge drop bair.

I've mained Mario since melee so edge guarding tends to be my domain. Learning to tech is essential btw since people always tries to stage spike fox.

The only other thing I can think of is stage spiking.. But that's about it.. Not sure how to pull it off like some players do.
