3.0 getting past "wrist strap screen"

I downloaded and moved all files onto an SD card like many other threads recommend. However when after I launch game from the Gecko screen, The Project M "wrist strap screen" loads and the game freezes on that screen.

I have tried both homebrews and then non homebrew files on the Wii and WiiU but I keep running into the same issue. Does anyone have any ideas or recommendations?
