I've always been hype on team smash. So lets talk about different 2v2 strategies and match-ups!

My brother and I use a sheik/bowser or diddy/bowser team. I like playing as bowser because he's definitely a stock tank. Also he is naturally very selective about throwing out his attacks, so I hardly ever hit my teammate on accident.
Your teammate can help prevent edge guarding; keeping you in at higher percents. Bowser with rage is a force to be reckoned with. You don't want to be punished or thrown into one of his fsmashes either ;).

One thing i wanted to point out, is the invulnerability you have while throwing an opponent.
If you have someone grabbed, your teammate can throw a heavy hitting attack at you. If you throw just before contact only the opposing player will be hit.

I've never put much thought in 2v2. I never thought of it as competitive till i found out they did doubles. Silly me!

I find that Villager is the best character in 2v2. He stock tanks due to having an amazing recovery and defensive playstyle, and can run offstage to hit a teammate upwards to help them recover. Villager + a partner with a strong projectile is the way to go.

Online, my brother and I prefer playing our mains (Mac and Robin) since they cover two complimentary playstyles, and we don't have to worry about friendly fire.

With friendly fire on, I tend to go back to good ol' Marth or Ness.

I also play Robin in teams, with team attack off anyways, he is an excellent character companion with his stun, damage, and long lasting hit boxes. Very good with faster characters as mentioned above by Raikinken. Now if I could only find some friends to do doubles with... Might be nice to have a team social thread up...
