You don't need to create temporary byes. I don't understand why people do this. If there are not enough people to fill the bracket of size 2^n it will automatically create byes for the highest seeded players. If you want to have 16 people in the bracket but only 7 have signed up, you don't need to have the size of the bracket predetermined, it automatically resizes. So if there are 8 people signed up and you want to add a 9th, just add the entrant and it will automatically resize to 16 giving byes to the top 7 entrants. When entrants are added it fills in the bracket accordingly. Does challonge or tiopro really not have this functionality or are people creating byes for reasons other than habit? Just add entrants as they come and either move their seeding around or use the skill value feature and just click order seeds by skill to let it automatically generate byes and determine bracket size. Putting in 32 byes because you want a bracket of size 32 but then only having 12 people sign up is so messy because not only does everyone have a first round bye, but some people have second round byes and it looks like ****. Trust the site, trust the functionality, it will make your life easier if you realize it already knows what you want it to do.

Also, if you have it where people have a week to play matches, ask them for their emails or phone numbers and update the bracket with them and set the setup count to be half of the number of entrants. This way, everyone will get a text or email notification telling them who they have to play and if they're waiting on a match to finish, the second its finished and reported on the bracket they will get a notification telling them they now have a match against the person they were waiting on. It also allows you to resend the notifications so if someone forgot or is late playing their match you can remind them to get it done much easier than skyping and smashboardsing and facebooking and using the pony express.

Can you fix the bugs where it logs you out randomly. Really annoying and wastes time. That alone is making me think of using other bracket sites.

Edit: It says you are not logged in even though you are logged in. Then you have to refresh the page which makes you not see the previous chat comments and have to redo your action you were trying to complete when you got the error.

Just about all data is persistent so when the application pool restarts the only data that is lost is the chat (which isn't persistent due to performance reasons) and login sessions to identify who is currently logged in or not. Unless someone wants to donate $100 a month to get superior hosting its a "bug" that will get fixed when the host decides to allocate more resources to the account.

Asking for more resources from the host isn't such a simple process. It requires fighting and arguing and demanding they do it and threatening to take your business elsewhere and it takes weeks and its a nightmare and you have to ask to speak to their manager and its a real big headache and I'd rather spend my time programming features and functionality then doing PR work and wooing IT managers for some web company where everyone you talk to barely speaks English.

Dang I feel ya man. If it's any consolation I don't mind the refresh issue that much. Didn't realize I was missing part of the chat but all the tourneys I've done on there have gone really smoothly and I hope you guys eventually find a funding stream to get better hosting. Definitely deserves it.

Well the problem is, in terms of the start of the tournament, I cannot run this at all. I don't want to do a single night type of event. I've done similar before and the results were mixed at best.

This is a tournament based in Smashboards, not one entirely on Advanced Brackets, People have a week to play their match. It's not like they play exactly one week after, it's more that there are dqs handed out if they don't play within the week.
