2 Newly Discovered Techniques

So I found these out messing around with Link. I'm not sure exactly how useful they'll be but I think with proper application they might atleast add something to Link's game.

1. Falling Up B
Run to the edge of a platform or stage and just as you are approaching the edge quickly press Up B. Be careful not to jump. If you time it just right, Link will begin his normal Up B on the ground but will slide off the edge of the platform or stage. If you do this off the stage you can DI toward the stage and Link will begin his Up B but grab the ledge half-way through. This technique was possible in Melee but this is the first time I've seen it in Brawl. The timing is pretty tricky. If you do it too early you'll do the regular standing Up B and if you do it too late you'll do the jumping Up B. If you hold B for too long the Up B will cancel as you leave the ledge giving you a small flash of light but no attack. When you do it right often Link will do his Up B scream twice in rapid succesion. It's really creepy. I'm not sure how useful this will be. Using it to grab the ledge is about the same speed as hugging and a bit more dangerous if you screw it up. But I have to say, holding a bomb then doing this off the edge of a stage with the double scream and having the bomb blow up in your hands during the invincibility frames leaving Link unscathed is probably the most terrifying thing I've seen in my life.

2. Boomerang Slide
Using the same idea as the first one, if you run toward the edge of a stage or platform and just as you are about to step off it throw your boomerang, for some inexplicable reason Link gets a boost in his horizontal momentum. This works whether you actually have your boomerang with you or not. This one seems a bit more useful because it actually speeds Link up quite a bit. You'll notice if you're doing it right. I'm not sure how you could use this to edgeguard because Link falls like a rock but it does get you around platform stages faster. I find it useful atleast.

If you're having trouble with these, don't be discouraged because the timing is pretty difficult. I don't have the equipment to make a proper video so if someone out there figures these out and could make a video it'd be great.

And here's another!

Good find! sure we'll find some use for it. (We always do)

BTW

Also in advance, sorry if this has been discovered yet...

Alrighty! For those who think the can't use the Clawshot while in the air while holding a bomb (or any other item), well you're wrong. Just simply airdodge then press A...that simple. Combine the bombs with the Clawshot and you get sweetness. You can also press airdodge and A at the same time to drop the bomb (very) close at your oppenent and stay out of harm's way. One last thing. Mess around with airdodging and A with a bomb and you'll notice other crazy stuff you can do with it in hand.

Sorry, I hadn't seen it done in Brawl. Seen it plenty in Melee but I figured it can't hurt to let people know it's still possible in Brawl.

This sounds just like a move that's being talked about in the Mario forum, with the same timing and using Mario's cape.

Is this possible with any character's Side B move?

No. It's possible with seemingly random B moves of different characters. For instance, G and W's down B allows him to do this as well as his side B. However Link's down B makes him stop exactly at the edge if you try to do this. Some moves cancel at edges as well such as Link's Up B unless you release it before you reach the edge. Pit's Up B does this as well giving you the annoying Pinging noise of starting his Up B without actually using the move. Some characters have moves that give you this horizontal boost while others don't. In addition for some characters it's much more effective than others. Mario's over B gives him a considerably larger boost than any other characters. In addition there are some B moves that allow you to continue sliding but do not give you any boost besides your original momentum. Mario's fireballs, Snake's Nikita missile and Ness and Lucas's PK Thunder are all like this. I'm thinking of making a thread in the tactics board with a list of which B moves do what when used near an edge.
