Smash Rookie
Hello everyone! My name is Jose, and I've been a fan of the Super Smash Bros. series since it was released back in 1999!
When I first got Smash, I was amazed that Ness was a hidden character. At the time, a lot of my friends that also had the game had no idea who he was. I was fully aware of Ness because I had rented Earthbound from Blockbuster a few years before, and fell in love with the game instantly. From that point on I always mained Ness because of a special relationship I felt I had with the character and his series that no one else I knew had.
Of course this is all pre-internet and flash forward to today where I'm playing a bunch of Ness players online all over the world!
Of course for the longest time my favorite entry in the series was Melee, because I spent the most time with it. But I love Smash 4 and honestly prefer to play it over Melee because it fits my playstyle more, and Ness is actually a threat so the 16 years work I have been putting in him is finally paying off!
I knew of Smashboards a few years ago, around the same time I discovered there was a competitive Smash scene. I always admired the community from the outside, but never felt I had the time or skill to dedicate myself to being competitive with Melee or Brawl.
My attitude kind of changed when Smash 4 came out. Now the online was something of worth, and I found myself surrounded by a bunch of people I personally knew who played Smash, which is something I had been missing since high school. I don't think I'd go full Apex, but I've been going to local tournaments and doing very well in them that my desire to improve my game competitively has compelled me to finally join Smashboards.
I've been gaming my entire life (I'm 29 in July) and it is my biggest passion in life. I'm married and have two kids, and although that means my gaming time isn't what it used to be like, I still find time to enjoy it and I have been very successful in getting my daughters interested in the games I loved growing up. My gaming tastes are very diverse, I don't hold any bias over any company or console, and I'm willing to try and play any series. I don't judge others gaming tastes, and I'm always looking to have fun and enjoy a game rather than beating people. It's a nice feeling to go to a tournament and win $50 or whatever, but even if I don't win I make sure that I use the opportunity to meet new people, learn learn things, and have fun.
I want to learn as much as I can on the Smashboard, and maybe even expand the community I'm in locally by connecting with others here. Since I've been going to a lot of local events, I've been meeting a lot of really good players and that has translated to many fun nights of gaming online in Smash 4, and I hope to expand that into maybe one day being able to host my own events.
Look forward to meeting new people and having some fun matches!!!
