With my many misadventures with making game creation threads I came to the rilozation of something, all of my threads were of niche game franchises such as Pikmin, or based on one specific game such as Mario Odyssey, so I decided to be more generalized with my threads from now on.

Mario Party, a series that recently has been on the rise back from almost a decade of mediocre titles with Superstars release. With how long running the series is there has have to been a few games you played from this series (I played 9,10, and Island Tour via physical media and 1,2, and 6 via emulation). With how iconic the series is I think it can warrant a good thread making game.

254253-mario-party-nintendo-64-front-cover.jpg

The main thing we need to do to make this thread more organized is to find out how we will play the game, over the years the series has tested new game styles with mixed results. However I think we can make out own good ideas for a gamplay style via this thread.

Job 1 Tell what general gameplay style you want to use for this thread.

As the first job tell us how how each bourd will generally play out, now each bourd will have it's own gimmicks but that will be an addition to the core gamplay style, will there be stars, vehicles, will everyone play in teams of two, or battle in a free for all, will there be special items to use or will each character have a specific ability they can use.

Wel as a certain someone has once said:

Characters:
Mario
Luigi
Peach
Yoshi
Wario
Waluigi
DK
Daisy

Boards:
Toad's Mt Shroom
Peach's Castle Grounds
Minigames:

Free For All:
Smoothie Surfer
Chuck Change
Rooting for the Enemy

Peinguin Sledding
Shell Showdown
Paint Splatter

Job 1: For gameplay style, I like how Super Mario Party works, and Iโ€™d like to add something similar to the Bowser/DK minigame spaces on top of it (maybe call them Kamek/Toad minigames?).

Job 1
Gameplay

This is semi continuation of the gameplay style of Super Mario Party.

Each board is in a grid styled shape (this makes boards more open while also allowing people attending this thread to easily do board layout jobs should that happen), for some all players start in the middle and work there way around the bourd collecting the main collectible of the game, Star Balloons, some boards on the other has has each play start in a random corner of the board and has them work there way to the main central area, depends on board to board.

s-l300.jpg

This gameplay style is less focused on luck aside from chance time and dice rolls and instead has a more strategic and competitive edge to it, like in Super Mario Party all charatcers can move at the same time, however the player's movement line can't intersect with one another so there is an element of speed as you plan you ideal route in the given number of spaces without having to intersect your opponents movement line, the 1 minuete time limit when rolling and planning spaces doesn't help.

After every turn you play a minigame and gain coins to spend on Star Balloons and/or a new item called Magic Coupons which act as special powerups that summon various items to use, some characters also have an exclusive character specific Coupon only they can use as well.
istockphoto-1088642392-612x612.jpg

You can collect Coupons in Shopping zones, which take up a random 4x4 -6x6 part of the grid bourds depending on the bourd and sells both Magic Coupons and the returning special Dice Blocks, they usually sell 3 Dice blocks and 2 Coupons at a time or Visa versa (3 Coupons and 2 Dice Blocks) and switch there inventory every 5 turns. You buy these items by walking over the space with the item podium and use coins to buy them.

A quarter of the turns in a Boss zone appears which takes up a varying number of spaces depending on the boss, if a player collides with a Boss character all players automatically play a boss minigame, Bosses drops a bunch of coins and some rare Coupons for the top winner but are optional should you know how to avoid. Depending on the numbers of turns you pick and the board you pick, there will be either 1-4 bosses per game that will drop down periodically.

Halfway though Bowser drops down and designates a specific pair 3x3 spaces as a Bowser Zone, which should you choose to enter these zones you will encounter Bowser Time which acts the same as last time. Bowser will switch from those two designated places located on both sides of the map every three turns so context specifics are needed if you dont want to encouter a Bowser Zone, at the last 5 turns booths areas will permanently become Bowser Zones.

Finnaly there are a roaming Yellow and Purple Shy Guy that periodically spawns that use there own dice blocks and randomly move across the board, colliding with them will cause one of two events to play out depending the color, Yellow Shy Guys cause chance time to occur and Purple Shy Guys force you to bet an amount of coins of your choice for a double or nothing gambling game.

Otherwise there are minigames of various types every end of turn and the one with most Star Balloons win the game.

From across the many boards there will be different gimmicks and locations that other boards may share, but these are the general rules every board follows. Overall it keeps the chaotic nature of Mario Party while also evolving past the luck based elements as even though there is randomness involved there are ways to counteract it should you know how to play.

I'm to tell you in advance when doing minigame jobs, Luck based minigames arnt allowed unless there is a specific job for them, and mini games with motion controls arnt allowed unless specified as well ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Because Job 2
Free for All Minigame Submission
No matter what the board gameplay style were sticking too the Minigames will stay the same with some exceptions, this a general Minigame submission for free for all games, like previously no luck based on motion controlled minigames and you can submit a max of 3 per person

Minigame Submission

Smoothie Surfer

This has the cast wakeboarding inside a giant blender on orange rinds, they ride the wave of smoothie as they try not to get there butts scratched on the blade below, however the tides constantly shift so they need to press left or right to go with the tide and need to jump to avoid durians, as the minigame goes on the tides get faster and more and more durians get spawned, the last ones standing wins.

Chuck Change

This has the players enter a Pianta ran bank that are chucking bags of coins to each other in a complicated pattern, you need to memorize the different chuckster paths and pick the best spot to gain the coinage before time runs out.

Rooting for the Enemy

This has the party examining a series of Uproots in three consecutive rounds as you try to analyze the closest height they made when uprooting, the one who gets the best guess wins some coins.

Every couple of turns a boss character will roam around the board and if anyone collides them a boss minigame starts for a lot of coins and rare coupons. Halfway through Kamek appears causing an event to happen that is associated with the returning Kamek Time, there are also Yellow and Purple roaming shy guys the cause Chance Time or a Double or Nothing minigame to happen should you collide with them, the one with the most balloons win. You can read the larger article above to get more uh depth info on the basic rules.

Job 3 Create a beginners board using the above rules

Create a beginners board that is designed to introduce new players to the above gameplay, the gimmicks should either be minimal or not effect the core gamplay and only affect the board structure. Also tell what would Kamek do halfway though the board and how would this event cause an opportunity for Kamek Time.

There are types of interactive places to land, triggers which activate when you cross them and spaces which activate when you land on there spot.

Here are the available spaces:

Blank spaces: Normal Ground, does nothing.

Blue Spaces: Creates a slot block that creates coins when hit

Red Spaces: Lose the amount of coins that is on the spaces number (a Red Space with he number 10 makes you lose 10 coins)

Duel Spaces: Play a 1v1 minigame

Lucky Space: Gain a free coupon or dice block

Happening Space: Cause an event to happen on the bourd when landed on

Spin Space: Creates a spinner that cause a variety of effects to other players

Warp Space: Allows you to warp to another warp space

Double Space: lets you roll again

Kamek Space: Appears halfway though and triggers Kamek Time.

Available Triggers
Coins: collide with these to gain a specific amount of coins

Star Balloon: Pay a specific amount of coins to collect them, they vary in price and move across the board after one is collected

Shop Item: Cross over this to have the option to buy an item with coins, appears close together in distinct shopping zones.

One Way Zone: Can only go in that one direction, often used for slides and pits.

Boss: Every few turns a boss character spawns that roams the bourd, if you cross paths with the boss everyone starts a Boss Minigame

Happening Zone: Crossing this zone starts an event

Turning Door: A door that once crossed by one player tuns into a wall that can be passed by the player in the other side and Visa Versa.

Kamek Zone: Crossing this zone causes Kamek Time to happen, appears halfway through the game

Using this info (you dont need to use all of this info just some) and the grid structure create a structure for a beginners board, you just need to type it out but you can create what the board would look like though, that part is optional.

Minigame Ideas

Penguin Sledding
In this minigame, players ride on a penguin sled, and there are obstacles as players go down, such as rocks/trees. Also, there would be ramps that players can go on. The player who reaches the bottom first wins.

Shell Showdown
This minigame would be similar to the Bob-omb dodgeball game in Mario Party 5, but players would be throwing shells instead of bob-ombs, and players can jump during the minigame. Players hit by shells are eliminated.

Paint Splatter
In this minigame, players would shoot paintballs onto a canvas, and whoever has the most paint on the canvas wins.

First Board
Mushroom_Gorge_MKWii.png

Toad's Mt.Shroom

This is a grassy mountain board ran by a Purple Toad park ranger who says that Star Balloons have blown into the pristine mountain wildness and requests that the party help clean up the area and keep the park spotless.

The board is split into 4 distinct areas, in the central area you can find the start point for the party, you can head up the multilayered mountain peak by climbing ladders and the like, the first layer is the starting area, the second layer is home to the item shop of the board and the third layer is empty and quite narrow, however halfway through Kamek will use his magic to cause rocks to fall in that layer, this cam be triggered by landing on the Kamek spaces he creates on the third layer during this phase which results in you getting launched to Kamek's cabin to start Kamek Time, the tip forth layer is home to a warp space that can be used to activate a cannon that will launch to you to the other four cannons in the area, each of the other cannons are on a mushroom, two red mushrooms and two green mushrooms that are both across the matching colored mushroom (red mushrooms are north and south, green mushrooms are east and west). The mushrooms are where you find the star spawn areas.

Both the red and green mushrooms have there own unique gimmicks, the red mushrooms are covered in smaller red mushrooms that can be activated by landing on a happening space, when activated it allows the player who activated them to gain double the amount of spaces for ther next roll due to the springy spores they create, green mushrooms are flatter and more open, they consist of an outer ring and inner ring that will periodically spin every 3 turns which switches the spaces around as you head in the center.

While these mushrooms are out of reach there is a happening space located on the bottom most part of the central mountain area that causes one pait of mushrooms to be lowered allowing the party to head there without heading to the peak cannon. When that happening space is triggered again the mushrooms that came down come back up and the other mushroom pair will rise down to the previous position, this happening space will appear when Kamek appears as well. Overall a simple board with some depth added.

Peachโ€™s Castle Grounds
1631494781719.png

Iโ€™d see this board taking place right in front of Peachโ€™s Castle.
Iโ€™d see the board divided into three areas, with players starting by the castleโ€™s door.
Then, players would go across the bridge and either go left or right.
On the left side, there would be a happening space where the player is invited to the castle, and the player goes back to the starting space in addition to a double roll space.
On the right side, there would be a Kamek space.
Both sides of the bridge would have an item shop, where the right side of the map includes more valuable items.
Also, both sides of the map would have a warp space that brings the player to the opposite side without going back to where the bridge was,
Halway through the board, Kamek would have goombas try to invade the castle, bringing players on bridge to the Kamek Space, causing Kamek time to occur.

Also
Job 4
Magic Coupon Submissions
Magic Coupons are items you can buy via the shop zones that acts as powerups that can be summoned for you use for yourself or against the player, the more powerful the item the more expensive it is though it can vary from board to board, the job for here is to create a maximum of 3 coupons and tell the thread how they would work. Dont do anything purposely overpowerd there has to be some strategy involved in making these coupons.

Iโ€™ll do job 4 later.

I was thinking of Koopa Troopa, but Iโ€™ll submit Boo and Pom Pom for my character nominations.
I submitted Boo because he feels like a Mario Party staple to me, and he also appears in the tennis and golf games.
I chose Pom Pom becuase I think that she is a fun choice for the game.

Iโ€™ll do two simple coupons with one more complex one
Mushroom Coupon: this would just add 3 spaces to a players roll.

Star Pipe Coupon: this allows the player to move immediately next to a star ballon before rolling.

Lakitu Balloon: this would be similar to Lakituโ€™s function in Super Mario Party where he can either take an opponentโ€™s coins or star.

Job 5
Make a Boss Minigame

Boss Minigames are special challenges that occur when colliding with a boss character, they spawn periodically on the board and take a specific number of tiles up (a boss could take up 3x3 worth of tiles), that's not important, the important thing is that you submit a maximum of 2 bosses per account and tell what the boss is, what the minigame is, and how many spaces they take up (1x1-5x5 tiles big, though you could also do 3x4 or 4x2 for the tile size) in context these boss minigames work the same as the boss minigames from Mario Party 9 and 10 with a first phase and a more frantic remixed second phase, the only restriction is to not do any main antagonists like K Rool or Bowser, although DKC characters and giant sized versions of normal enemies are allowed are allowed to be boss enemies. Also the winning bosses will be disqualified for being a Partyer in a future job.

For my job 5 submission: my bosses will be Petey Piranha (3x3) and Boom Boom (2x2).
For Peteyโ€™s minigame, I imagine it being something like his boss fight in Super Mario Sunshine. Players will have water guns and must. aim for Peteyโ€™s mouth and when he is lying down, the player must bounce on his belly button. Players earn points by filling his mouth and bouncing on his belly button.
For Boom Boomโ€™s minigame, The players would be in a square arena holding koopa shells, with Boom Boom missing. A few seconds after, Boom Boom would fall to the ground, hurting players in a nearby radius. While he is on the ground for a couple seconds, the players must throw their shells to attack him. After a couple of seconds or after being hit, Boom Boom would jump up in the air again, and the process repeats until the game ends. Players gain points if they hit Boom Boom but lose points if they hit other players.

Long story short the board is an open grid like area and you collect star balloons as the main collectible, you all roll at the same time and use a line to plot your path, however you cant intersect with another players movement plan line, there are shops that sell both coupons for powerups and special dice blocks and a few characters have unique coupons to use and buy for coins. Create a beginners board that is designed to introduce new players to the above gameplay, the gimmicks should either be minimal or not effect the core gamplay and only affect the board structure.

Using this info (you dont need to use all of this info just some) and the grid structure create a structure for a beginners board, you just need to type it out but you can create what the board would look like though, that part is optional.
Both boss minigames submitted will win.

Job 6 and 7 Create a 1 V 3 and 2 V 2 minigame

Same rules as last time just create a 1 V 3 player minigame and 2 V 2 minigame, make sure there balanced

Job 8
Create a Tropical Resort themed board

1v3 Minigame:
Dog Fight: Every player is on an aircraft. For the team of 3, each player only has 2 health points, but the single player has 7 health points. The objective of the game is to eliminate the other team by shooting at the enemy players.

2v2 Minigame
Ice Cream Delivery: In this minigame, one player would be catching ice cream falling from the sky with an ice cream cone.mAfter catching the ice cream, the player brings the ice cream cone to their ally, who then delievers it to a customer (a Toad). The team that delievers the most ice cream cones wins.

Iโ€™ll make a Gelato Beach layout later.

2V2

Dumb Defenders

One player mans a box of rolling spike bombs and have to use them to hit the opponent teams fortress three times, however the other team has a player manning a sheild to defend against the bombs, so teamwork is need to both attack and defend.

I wanna submit a minigame, but I can't at the moment. Could you hold off the voting before then?
Yeah, you can make any minigame as long as it's either a 2 V 2 or 1 V 3 minigame that lacks motion controls or luck

I thought this was a free-for-all minigame, not a 2 v 2 or 1v 3, so I'll probably sit this one out. I like the submissions so far, though!
