I don't think I'm the best person to ask that lol. Tho, if there is one thing I think I can say, is that SA2 was the first Sonic game on a Nintendo console, so for lots of peoples, it was their first experience with the Sonic franchise, that, and Nintendo audience generally target younger folks, so lots of peoples have nostalgia to it.
